hi,
just got back home and had an email from ebay saying my account has been restored due to "a third party accessed account"
i thought my password was reasonably secure
anyway, i have changed all my passwords on ebay, paypal and hotmail to something as unique as i can think of, and checked my paypal and credit card accounts to see if any money has gone, luckly its all ok, looks like they have sent out 10-20 emails to other users with website addresses:rolleyes:
i signed into all my accounts using bookmarks so there is no chance of going to a dodgy site via email.
so my question is, is there anything i can do to stop this happening again?
and is there anything i have not checked that i need to check?

thanks

are you sure its a genuine email? i get emails like that, mainly for paypal, saying i need to validate my account etc etc. just trying to get me to enter my details into a fake site

:(yes it was genuine, tried to log into my ebay account via a bookmark and i had to request a new password, i did not click any links on the email, looking on my account there were lots of emails sent, not by me!!:(

had emails like this before
they we're 3rd party and not ebay

you can always send these mails to ebay i think its spoof..... @ ebay

or some thing like just look on the bay to find out

Hi,

I had this also happen to me only a few weeks ago.

I hadn't logged into the account for months and I rarely use it. My account was created in 2001.

I'm quite computer security paranoid and have a very technical computer knowledge and I'm sure there is no way they got the password from my side.

Only thing that leaves is that there was once or still is a flaw in the ebay site allowing users to log into other peoples accounts or to retreive passwords.

how can i check this, i have antivirus and windows defender, updated and scanned! how can i check for a keylogger?

What antivirus have you got? If its AVG then try something like the free trial of Kaspersky:)

Also get Spybot and Adaware.
That will help keep you computer secure in the future aswell

I got an email tonight as well. An account I haven't used in years and years was compromised so I doubt it's key-loggers or anything. They were sending a similar message to yours but in French and on eBay.fr.

I had to reset and confirm all of my new details by phone. If it's genuine then you arrange by phone-or should do :)

Just found my inbox full of messages that I'd supposedly sent to other members advertising a site. Tried to log into my ebay account and couldn't. Luckily enough my email address was still valid, so went through the process of resetting the password. Back in now, but really not sure what happened. Reckon my Fiencee's brother has downloaded something on her laptop, as I was using that a couple of days ago to order on ebay?
