I've recenty upgraded to a 30" monitor so my single 5870 seems to be stuggling at 2560 x 1600. It seems I can pick up another 5870 for about £70 secondhand so is there a better option then this spending less than £200? The rest of my spec is as per my sig though I'll probably upgrade to an 3570k within a few months.
 
If I am correct in the 5870 has only 1GB of VRAM, this could be the limiting factor at your resoloution. I would be recommending a 2GB card minimum. What games do you play mainly?
 
Recently I've been playing a lot of FTL but in terms of stuff that needs a graphics card then BFBC2 & Total war, with Dishonoured and Sleeping dogs ready to go when I've got a decent bit of free time.
 
When I was running 2x5870s @5040x1050 in BFBC2 it was definitely VRAM limited by the shared 1GB RAM, overall fps was a bit higher but AA couldnt go above 1x without it becoming a slideshow. I would recommend selling the 5870 and putting that money towards an upgrade, perhaps 7950 if you can stretch the budget by £30 or buy second hand in the MM.
