Just thought we could share any tips and tricks here, things like video settings or any in-game tips/tricks that can help other people have a much better BF3 experience :)

Personally I'd like to know any video tips and tricks, like any recommended settings regarding field of view or custom graphics quality :)

make sure your not downloading a torrent and maxing out your connection before playing.

I spent about an hour wondering why i was getting owned repeatedly lol

I'll try think of something more useful to contribute xD

I've got one.

Wait about 6 months before you play it.

It might be fixed by then, though I have my doubts. DICE never really finish or fix any of their games.

You'd have thought either I would have learned my lesson by now.

Sort of reminds me of this.

I'm not exactly a pro pilot (hoping to get the rocket pods tonight!), but you did ask:

  • Watch this. It's very helpful! (It's kinda console oriented, but a lot of the tips are still handy.)
  • Stay as high as you can. If you're up high the ground based AA guns and stingers can't reach you, so that's a massive proportion of enemy firepower you can forget about. As a minor benefit it also keeps you on top of and out of the upper view of a lot of pilots who stay low, unless you're way out ahead of them. Only swoop down when you've got a specific target in mind, and then climb again ASAP.
  • If you hear something locking on try to move as unpredictably as possible. They've got to keep you fairly central in their forward view if they're going to lock on, so if you can get yourself out they might not just lose the lock, they might lose you completely. Something I do a lot is roll until I'm upside down, climb for altitude, and sometimes flip back over or bank at random points. If you've no idea what you're pulling then neither will the pilot behind you, which makes it very hard to keep you in their sights.
  • Keep an eye on your minimap, and keep it fully zoomed out. The odd time somebody bothers to spot a jet can save your hide if they're behind you, or it can show up new targets.

Think you can level up the plane with capping points in conquest, so you can find a 1 player start server and land the plane to capture the points :)

SHOCK HORROR - A HELPFUL POST...

a genuinely useful thread idea, ruined by pointless replies.

here's a tip

go to wherever you have BF3 Installed
mine is: D:\Origin\Origin Games\Battlefield 3 for example

then select the 'bf3.exe'

right click on the exe and go to the compatibility tab

then tick the box that says

"Disable Desktop Composition"

press apply

this will disable windows aero when you open the game and frees up vram

I game at 2560X1600 on 480SLI and sat at 1500MB Vram usage all the time

doing this trick frees up 3-400 mb vram meaning the computer is not bottlenecked

maxxed out, BF3 runs at 1200MB vram usage at the very most.

hope that helps some of you :)

Nice little tip indeed.
