Just ordered a P8Z68-V pro Gen3

However, was talking to an indian lad at the weekend who does the shows and he says that he gets far less returns from gigabyte boards than asus

and just been reading a post by stulid saying he prefers gigabyte boards, and all the ocuk bundles seem to be gigabyte boards

whats the reality of it?

Reality is ... no idea ...

I've returned an Asus board before, but I've had two that have been perfect.

I always buy the high-end Deluxe models tho, doesn't really compete on price.

I think some recent models have had many issues that stulid endeavours to point out to would-be purchasers!

I've had other ASUS boards in the past and they've been very good. However, I have found GIGABYTE more reliable, but less feature-rich. Also GIGABYTE boards used to be ugly as, but now they're very nice.

I'm on the verge of buying the GA-Z68XP-UD4 when funds allow. Looking forward to clocking the 2500K on it.

P6T Deluxe overclocks well but it will not wake from sleep and POST takes ages to start, apart form that never had a problem with ASUS.

I've always used ASUS boards. Tried Gigabyte and MSI and I really regret getting them. Only problematic board was a P5K-E that died twice.

No issues with my ASUS P8Z68 V/Gen3 board, its easy to find and post links with any brand infact over at Anandtech forums there is a thread on Gigabyte boards gone downhill in quality.

I'll say I never had to return a board in 20+ years and I've used quite a few brands ie Abit,Asus,DFI,Epox,MSI,ECS to name a few, only ever had one board die and that was well pass the 3 year warranty(MSI board).

To prove my point here is a Gigabyte thread on P67/Z68 boot problems http://www.overclock.net/t/1034724/gigabyte-p67-z68-boot-cycling-problem 55 pages long last time I checked.

Ive always had asus boards, starting with the Socket A A7N8X all the way to my current P67 board. Ive not had any problems at all. I think my SATA port died on my previous P67 board but thats intels fault not asus. Even the much hated 780i board was fine for me.

Gigabyte on the other hand have given me troubles on both occasions i got them. First was a 965P board when C2D first came out which refused to boot from cold if i turned it off, i was faced with the endless on-off-on-off-on-off-on cycle. Then i replaced the bpard with another gigabyte 650i board for SLI and that was just the same.

Never tried MSI. I considered the MSI P67 and Z68 boards when i got my current board but decided to stick with what i know :)

For me I stick with the brand that works, until it doesn't. My first ever Gigabyte board arrived with broken retainer pins and the north bridge cooler rattling around loose in the box. That was 3 years ago and despite the fact that much has changed in 3 years, I won't buy another Gigabyte board simply because the Asus P5Q deluxe board that replaced the Gigabyte has been outstanding. When I do get around to replacing this Asus board it will be with another Asus. Like I said I think most PC builders are fiercely brand loyal. If something works well they stick with that brand. (no disrespect to Gigabyte users)

never had a problem with asus mobos, on a cheap uatx i managed to unlock and oc ym phenom x2 550 be to a 3.8 quad on a stock cooler. cant remember exact model number atm but it was something like asus M4n68T M LE V2. and im getting another asus board now waiting for the stock to fill up :]

I've got the P8Z68V board (not Gen 3) and I've had no problems with it at all so far, touch wood. I've previously had lots of makes - MSI, Gigabyte, DFI and there have been lots of forum threads all over the place where users have had problems with all different brands, usually in direct proportion to how well the board sells generally (not just to enthusiasts).

My advice would be to keep yourself informed, take forum threads with a pinch of salt and assume that you'll have no issues until you actually hit one.

I've had A8N32-SLI Deluxe, M4A88T-M and now a Sabertooth 990FX. Also put a M5A99X in a friend's build. All of them are absolutely fantastic. The one time I made the mistake of getting a Gigabyte board (990FXA-UD5) I came out immensely dissatisfied - it was probably the worst board I've ever seen (seriously messy BIOS and a PCI-E slot that's blocked by a heatsink!)

So I like my ASUS, and with good reason.

No problems here. In fact I returned to Asus from evga, simply because more folks have them. If there's a problem, its more likely you'll find someone who solved it.
I like the p8z68-v gen3. Same high end build as the pro/deluxe without all the bloat features I don't need. Working flawlessly.
