C&C welcome

Lovely take on a subject matter that is done to death. Can almost see my office from there too :p

Is it just me or does the shot appear ever so slightly out of focus? The edges on the buildings just don't seem clean.

But like I say, great way to capture a subject that is traditionally done either at night or via the waterfront :)

is it hdr?? it looks so. i really like the shot mate, only thing that stands out to me is the left side of the middle building seems to have some blue fringing, but that may be my monitor. thanks for posting it

Nothing backhanded meant about it mate. Love what you have done in terms of snapping canary wharf that way. I walk around it every day wishing I had my camera with me and am sick of the sight of all the 'Canary Wharf at night' shots that have been done to death. There are so many angles and views that people don't exploit in their shots and that pic does it well :)

But like I say, might be my tired eyes that have just flown back from Barcelona with very little sleep but the edges of the buildings just look a little soft

Looks soft to me

Nice angle and picture, it's out of focus though. Isn't it?

I'm not an experienced photographer so I'm never completely sure on lens quality, I have my doubts about my Sigma lens - sometimes it seems sharp, sometimes it doesn't.

Here is a 100% crop from the original, non-HDR image - give me your opinion

Looks pretty good, as said its nice to see it from a "new" perspective. I think there might be quite a bit of fringing on the image though or somthing, look at the lamp post on the right of the image for the most obvious place. I think thats whats making the image look like its slightly out of focus?

Only needs to be the minutest of differences--perfectly possible to nudge the tripod when pressing the shutter release or even have it move due to mirror slap. Were you using a remote release and mirror lock-up?

It could just be due to a too-large aperture, though--f/3.5 isn't really going to give you the DOF you need for these sorts of distances.

Particularly the tops of the streetlights and the right-most building look misaligned to me though (or you've got some mad chromatic aberrations, or both I suppose).

I think you should probably sacrifice some shutter speed/ISO and stop down a little--you're losing sharpness and depth of field by shooting at what is presumably wide open.

Definitely prefer the second shot, though :)

I think you're right Mr Miller... maybe I need to spend more time composing these things. Today was kind of a test to use my tripod and lots of these photos I've just been snapping at whim.

I like the traffic light one, I don't really like the look of HDR images but in this instance I think the "over the top" nature of HDR works really well,
