So MS won't RMA my dead wireless gaming receiver, options?

Is there some kind of cable that converts my wireless xbox pad to a wired one?

My wireless receiver for Windows has died, this is the 2nd one I have had in 24 months now and both have died after a similar time of use where you plug it in and no life from the recievr whatsoever and no detection via Windows.

MS said without a purchase receipt they cannot help but I bought it brand new from a dedicated ebay store (xbitegames).

Rather than buy a 3rd one (:rolleyes:) I wandered if the pad can simply be turned in to a wired one instead using the Play & Charge cable? I know this works on the XBOX but does it also work on Windows?

Damn if I bought a Logitech pad and it died and I had no receipt they would have said "no problem sir, we're now sending you a new pad, just break the dead one".

Nope it does not work because all the plug & play does is charge the battery or gives the controller power.

All signals are sent via radio waves and thats it. I have tried this with my Xbox 360 controller and plug and play kit. The drivers install but all it does is charge.

I got a wired Xbox controller which has no hassling with receivers and battery packs which is so much better and more reliable.
 
Unless they've changed the drivers recently the plug and charge cable only charges the battery. It doesn't provide any functionality to connect the controller to the PC.
 
Nope you need a dedicated wired controller.

I'd love for Logitech to do an Xbox style wireless controller...even better if it was compatible with the unifying reciever.

So I have a XBOX controller that's lying around doing nothing then. Smashing :S

Bah, cheers peeps. I will stick with Logitech for such stuff in future.
 
You can fix it only the internal fuse has blown. Someone did a guide on this a while ago but MS closed the GFWL forums so not sure how you would find it now but its very easy just open it & remove then resolder a tiny little fuse which cost a few pence.

You will have to use your google skills. MS made a batch of these which got broken by some USB ports............
 
Me also. Easy enough job if you can get a hold of a soldering iron.

Carried this repair out about 6 months ago and the receiver is still working fine.
 
Well that gave me and the missus a hearty chortle...have some stars!

While I'm here...anyone know how to repair a wired Xbox 360 controller? It's just stopped working, the cable was wrapped round it for months so I'm guessing something came loose...luckily I just stashed it in a cupboard rather than obliterating it. :) ;)

Because they are about £18-20 each on their own, and it's a very common problem :(
Apparently they draw very close (if not right on the edge of) the allowable current under the USB spec and their internal fuses have a nasty habit of blowing, which can be fixed in some cases, but not always.

It's a really poor design by MS.

I've got a dead receiver here, but said screw it and ended up buying a wired 360 controller cheap.

The really annoying thing is, because its a nonstandard wireless thing, you can't just use a generic blu tooth receiver with it.
I really wish Logitech made wireless controllers.
 
I could sell the wireless pad but I bought the wireless pad for the very reason of not having to have a wire!

Aye they're too expensive for what they are!

Logitech do a wireless pad now that looks great but it uses its own deidcated nano receiver much like the G700 gaming mouse to keep its signals independent of other wireless devices I guess. I hpe they do a Bluetooth one soon or a Unifying one. There was a limited run of joyPhone PS2 style pads out from Korea recently but apparently they only made 30~ and they were bluetooth. Would have loved one of those!
