Get the x1800 XT, cheaper, and faster. :)

Review

Welcome to the forums btw. :)
Cheaper -- Just
Faster -- Yes but new drivers do a lot in a couple of months time this card may be faster and it should have the edge in shader intensive games :)

Cheaper yes.

Faster, I dont think so.

Umm have you seen all the reviews recently???? You might want to read the one posted further up. The x1800xt IS faster then the x1900gt in all the bechmarks that they have been run against each other in. Who knows what the future drivers might do, but as it stands at the moment the x1800xt is the better of the two cards.

I dont understand this whole future drivers things, wont future drivers improve the x1800xt aswell? I've seen a boost of a few hundred with the 6.5's in 3dmark.

They will, but developers always gear their drivers to optimise their newest cards, top end cards more than anything else. So they are more likely to have a positive effect on the X1900's than anything else.

The only thing is that often it ends up that by the time the drivers have been optimised so that the card is at its full potential then a newer/better card for the similar price is out. I buy my cards on the basis on how it performs at the time of purchase, not how it might perform in 2-3 months down the line with different drivers.

In my experience it's pretty rare that new drivers come out giving certain cards a much bigger boost than others. I just can't see a x1900GT being faster than an x1800xt in most games regardless of any future driver enhancements.

To be fair when heavy shader intense direct x 9 games are released the ?X2000? would have arrived. better off getting the X1800XT 256/512.

King.

will the x1900GT not have more overclocking headroom?

The n00b review i saw only used CCC and not powerstrip to overclock, so his core was limited by the software.

Also the cooler looks puney and could be upgraded.

Hello all, particularly LoadsaMoney, very nice to be here!

Hey rick Barnes.

X1800xt can be blocked higher and it also has 1.2ns ram, On the other hand the x1900gt has 1.4ns ram so wouldnt overclock as good as the one on x1800xt:)
