It is very plausible that *** xbox live netwok is still suffering problems after yesterday's update (xbox.com for instance is very slow today)
May be worth just waiting it out. Funky stuff always happens after the dash updates and normally normal service resumes in a day or so.
Not if it was already on the console, but I am not sure if it does if you are retreiving the account on another machine to the one you created the USA one on.
tbh, regadless of the dash update, the recover gamertag can take a long time. I have used this when visiting mates etc and it can take forever ometimes toreceover it (and then you have to do the same thing in reverse when you get home).
It could be a genuine timeout I suppose. Did you retreive your UK account successfully or was that on the console already?
