I bought a now dead (YLOD) 60GB PS3 of a bloke i know for £50 the other day, thought it might be useful thing to have around for spares etc.I wasnt going to bother fixing it but I have just found this guide on how to fix a YLOD PS3 , http://playstationlifestyle.net/forums/showthread.php?t=2376
Should be able to use the ersa scopes etc at work to check under the BGAs when re-worked and i should also be able to reflow/Refit the BGAs on the PS3 if required. If it all goes to plan ill try and find some more YLOD to try and repair and re-sell. Anyone else tried a YLOD repair? I know Apoc did it to his PS3 a while back (not sure its still running) to get a gauge on how sucessful it may be, i did this with some 360 RROD a while back we had several and we even did a profile for the reflow oven for them lol, there all still going strong

It's still going smalls after a good month :D

I found a pdf that I downloaded from somewhere. The guide was pretty useful, but not really necessary. All I did was blast the GPU & CPU with a heatgun for a couple of minutes. After refitting the HSF, all was well (and indeed quieter than ever). I'm negotiating the opportunity to test my fix on another YLoD, so I'll keep you posted.

Nice one, still think im going the pro route (lol) with this one, keep my uber rework Skillz fresh.

Well decided i'd go an do it the DIY way and got a cheapo heat gun from a shop, and try and see how easy or not it is with everyday items. After a watching the vids and reading the PDF it took an hour or so but i have a newly happy working PS3. One thing i have noticed is that its quiter than my current 60GB now and looking at the dust coming from inside it i can see why lol. The TC wasnt great so i used silver so far so good, just going to do a backup first of all before i get it to fold for a bit. BD drive works fine stuck a game in and it fired up ok fans didnt spin up while loading/playing so should be ok. Its not a difficult procedure for those with the same problem, but its not the cure for all YLOD issues.
