Why do you listen to music?

As a musician I not only listen to it but I play it and create it (or at least what I like to call music :D ) It lets me express myself first and foremost.

I listen to it because it can make me feel emotions and things you can't describe that nothing else can create.

Music is awesome!

EDIT: Also, in a band situation it's a great way to work with other people and achieve something, when playing music in a group it's a transfer of energy from one person to another, again this is something you can't really put into words.

I like music because it's good at stirring emotions (especially live music [also known as gigs]). It's quite hard to put it into words though, like why people watch films or look at art. It provokes feelings and it's enjoyable, entertaining. Sometimes meaningful lyrics or a catchy melody that can cheer you up, or something to dance to.

I pretty much have music on all the time, but I sometimes listen to it on its own too, depends on the genre.

Lol at the add in from someone on the op :p

I listen to music mainly because it relaxes me and makes me feel better. If I'm really wound up it can calm me down too, really loud music is the best. Can't do that much anymore so I listen on headphones instead.

Agreed,

I love listening to slow depressive music by bands such as 'Anathema' and 'My Dying Bride', then suddenly switching to faster paced more feel good music like some of 'Muse' or even 'In Flames'. :)

..and doing this with weed is even more effective !

Music will always be on when I'm on the computer - can't stand silence, I have it when I'm working as I find it helps to concentrate (quietly and nothing too heavy) and as a musician myself, it's just a passion of mine. I love listening to new artists and discovering new talent (not new bands that all sound the same at the mo) but all styles.

Wow I think I'm starting to get your bracket allergy! ;)

I mainly listen to my preferred music at the moment on my Cowon D2 during commuting. At work there is a radio which plays the same songs again and again, it doesn't matter which radio station, they all repeat.

I try not to listen to my music too much as I would become bored of it and have a huge amount archived for 'another time'. I listen because it makes me feel happy, excited, gets the adrenalin going. Some of it also reminds me of the past, of memories at college/uni.

I use music for different things, but mainly it's a mood thing.

For instance while you're giving your girlfriend a massage you basically need music, it'd be weird without it. It takes your mind off other things and helps your thoughts flow.

It can also be used to aid performance (a form of audible bracket[if you will]), for instance if I put on some trance or something with a very defined beat it can help me work quicker/react faster in games (I notice this a LOT).

Some music takes you on an emotional journey, which can be amazing :)

I can't stand silence or even the noise of the 3 fans in my pc, I love rhythm, beat, lyrics, everything about the music that I like it adds a certain distraction that I like.

So? I was meant to delete it, I believed they asked me to try again. I did not see what was not understandable, but I must bow to the people who are above me, so I have tried again.

Thanks for the answers up until this post as they have been good. I play the Piano.

Well you do use a lot of brackets without real need. I've noticed that in the few days I've been back posting here.

Also why do you type your name at the bottom of every post? Not trying to be rude just curious.

I find it helps me concentrate on what I'm doing. I can drown out other distractions with music which I know well, I'm expecting what comes next so the music itself doesn't distract me.

Good music also invokes an emotional response, so sometimes I just sit and listen to music for the sake of it.
