Reserator XT: How best to drain the unit?

Hey there.

For a year, I've been using a reserator XT to cool my CPU and GPU. I've been using the standard CPU block, and the Zalman 8800GTX block for the GPU. In a month or so, I will be changing my GPU, and will be removing the GPU from the loop. (I will only be cooling the CPU). What would the best way to drain the system, re-fil and recirculate?

Furthermore, since I have been running this unit for a year, I figure now would be a good time to replace the coolant. Which coolant should I use? Should I only use the "official" Zalman stuff (bear in mind, the loop has a mixture of copper and aluminum parts, and I would like to avoid galvanic corrosion) or can I use something like Fezer?

Reserator XT coolant

Hi,

I just refilled my reserator XT there after about 1.5 years use with the Feser one liquid (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...Feser One UV Reactive Coolant 1 Litre (Purple)) and it seems to be good stuff so far.

I did try to clean it out in that I emptied as much as I could over a bath and then run the shower head inside it for a second, empty out and left to dry (I was very careful). Thing was that my coolant flow got too low and the alarm kept going off. I have a secondary pump now as I cool my CPU, Motherboard (Asus Striker 2 extreme) and dual 8800 GTXs but I found the coolant flow problem was to do with the zalman stuff?? What happened is that there was all these blue globs in the coolant. Very small but enough to block the coolant flow.

So I recommend a different coolant if you are cleaning out. Now with hindsight, I may have tried taking it apart first. There is those small alan key bolts in the front and back. Make sure you try to clean out the out and in sockets on the back as well :) Good Luck.
