Hi.
Quick question:
Im buying a JVC KD-AVX33 headunit off a mate soon, and from what ive read, if i buy a specific adaptor for it, specifically a JVC KS-PD100, that it can tie into an iPod.

What i want to know is this:
- Will it work with an iPhone rarther than an iPod?

- If it does work, how will it handle calls? The headunit also has BT on it, i asume that i tie that in seperately? As my existing FM transmitter that uses the dock connector cuts all audio when a call comes in & on speaker mode and uses the iPhones speakers instead. So with BT would it do the same?
If it doesnt, and this is probably more of a phone question, but can i use the BT on my iPhone to pipe the music to the player?

- Asuming both of the above 'work', where does the 'box' part of the adaptor go? Because it surely cant just sit there 'dangling' about behind the head unit?

Thanks in advance all. :).

Bump!
Anyone?

The general concencus from google is that the JVC iPod converter wont work, so from what i can see, a iPod Audio RCA/Power adaptor would be the next best option, which from what i can see, uses a normal dock connector, and via RCA and witchcraft, charges the iPod and pipes the audio to an AUX in on the headunit.

The question is, is it safe to effectivly have the iPhone tied into the 12v system of the car, and, would it work with the iPhone as per how it does at the moment?

My setup was cheap as chips, £100 sony bluetooth head unit, and connect the iphone through a bluetooth a2dp dongle as well as its own bluetooth.

Control music from headunit however cant skip through playlists and it cuts out when a call comes through obviously.

Now that A2DP will be 'unlocked' in firmware 3.0 its probably the 'cleanest' way to connect your iphone.

So your suggesting to use BT for both handsfree AND music playback?
Can the iPhone do that then? I didnt think it could for playback?

Not in the locked version of OS 2.0it can't you're right. But as mentioned, when 3.0 comes out later in the year, it should be capable then.

Yep, with 3.0 (i think in June?) you will, at the moment I use a A2DP dongle for iPods/iPhones I got of eBay for about £20. And the phone itself is connected to my head unit through its own bluetooth, it all works perfectly.

im guessing that head unit wont work with the iphone via usb. I have a similar head unit with usb, only works with ipods up to a 5th gen. Maybe something to do with how the files are stored?

Ah.
So what your saying is, from the 'point of view of the iPhone', that it'll pump music through the dock connector, then when calls come in, switch over to whatever hands free is paired?

So in theory, whatever output i choose for the iPhone, as long as its using the dock connector, should work fine?

So really, the best option is to find a dock connector that can output to RCA leads and charge the iPhone, to which ive found, but i dont know if it'll work as it doesnt advertise iPhone compatibility.:(.

Yes, just like if you're listening through headphones, a phonecall will pause the music, and switch to whatever telephone out put you have (headphones, handset, bluetooth), then carry on again. With a bluetooth headunit obviously you can pick up/hang up through the head unit anyway.

Yes if you dont have bluetooth or dont want to use that, RCA should work well, i like the BT as you can change tracks on the head unit, however...i've had a hard time finding any kind of accessory that charges the iphone 3g in a car, even the Pioneer with touchscreen and ipod connectivity wont charge it while plugged in.

You can buy adaptors that reverse the pins in the dock connector to usb charging from the firewire charging pins the the head unit will currently be using.

oh thats fine, the pioneer setup was my friends, i'd just love a car charger that works!

What ive done is buy a an iPod RCA/Power ->Dock connector cable.
If it works, then great, if not, then i'll keep using my transmitter for now then switch to BT when OS 3.0 is out.

I'll keep you all updated! :).

Well the converter cable didnt seem to work, but wether that was because i didnt wire up the power to check i dont know.

Either way, i can manage with my FM transmitter for now, then switch over to A2DP when OS3 is out. :).

Hands free works well now ive wired a mic into the stereo. :D :p.
