Power supply for hd 6950 in crossfire?

It is definitely one of the most intense games out there - especially if running in DX11 and turning on depth-of-field which most people seem to disable anyway due killing the FPS to much without any apparent gain.

If you game at 1920x1080 then you may see framerates of around 45+ but so far I haven't come across a single benchmark where Metro 2033 is running at 60+ completely maxed out.

45+ is very playable tho..

Would a game like black ops (1920 x 1080), fully maxed out, run at 60+ fps w/ a unlocked 6950?

45 FPS is very playable but if you are gaming at 1920x1080 on a 60hz monitor then 60+ FPS would give you the smoothest gameplay experience unless you have a 120hz monitor.

A single HD 5850 SHOULD max out Black Ops at 60 fps let alone an unlocked HD 6950 lol.:)

The thing with Black Ops on the PC version though, is that there are a lot of complaints regarding performance of the game even on a high-end rig i.e. runs choppy/stuttering where as the same engine used on Modern Warfare/2 runs flawlessly on GPUs as old as the HD 4850.

I play COD4 MP and the game needs to run 125 fps to play right. My 5870 and now 6950 stills struggles a bit in the 'big' scene's, even heavily OC'd.

Is that BO's problem in SP and MP mode? I heard it did that in MP mode and assumed it was a server issue.

Bump, I asked OC themselves they said 650w isn't enough because I only have 2 6 pin connectors but i have 4 molex for another 2 pins and they suggested a 850w power supply but I'm gonna try it regardless. My tx650w is a quality unit it's a proper 650w power supply and I saw this http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/299 it draws 506 watts from a whole system so clearly my 650w is enough?

Was there any point in asking if the only answer you were going to listen to was "650W will be fine"?

Furmark isn't a realistic gauge of power usage in typical scenarios anyway, it pretty much loads all of the card's components to 100% which no actual game does at the moment. Anandtech's figures for Crysis would be more representative.

650W is pushing it for crossfire on those cards imo. You need to think about the rest of your system as well and not just the GPU's. Are you overclocking your CPU? What CPU is it? How many HDD's do you/will you have.

Looking at Anandtech they got 507w with Furmark running and i think form memory around 480w with Crysis.

(that was crossfire cards and a i7 9xx system i believe)

I want more points of view.

If you already have the 650W PSU then just try it.

If you don't already have the PSU then buy something with a touch more power for peace of mind.

You also need to consider the 12V output as most components run from this.

A 650W PSU which can output 650W on the 12V rail(s) will be better than a 750W PSU which can ony output 500W on the 12 rail(s).

Its interesting to see this as I am in the same position, want to go duel 6950 in the future but only have a 650w power supply. If you try it let us know how it goes!
