How does this sound for a new build? It would be for muchos photo/video work with loads of windows open, maybe some games, and hopefully be relatively quiet but cool too. I have tried to think value as much as oomph, hence not Sandy Bridge...

Coolermaster CM 690 II Advanced (window version)
Intel i5 760, S1156, Lynnfield Quad 2.8 GHz (overclockable)
GELID Tranquillo sink/fan
Asus P7H55-M/USB3, Intel H55, mATX
2 x 4GB (2x2GB) Corsair XMS3 1600 1.5v
MSI ATI Radeon HD 5850 Twin FrozR II 1024MB GDDR5
Coolermaster RS600Silent Pro Gold 600 Modular
1TB Samsung SpinPoint 7,200rpm F3
2TB Samsung SpinPoint 5,900rpm F4 storage
2-Port USB 3.0 PCI-Express Card
Zalman ZM-MFC1 Combo fan controller
Front Cooling: 1 x 140mm Coolermaster Blue LED Fan (std)
Rear: 1 x 120mm Fan (exhaust) (std)
Top: 2 x 140mm Enermax T.B.Apollish Blue LED Fans (1 intake, 1 exhaust, or both exhaust?)
Bottom: 1 x 140mm Coolermaster Fan (std, intake supplied by CM as top fan)
Right window: 1 x120mm Sharkoon Silent Eagle LED Golf Ball Super Quiet

I am particularly concerned about whether that 600w PSU is big enough, and the cooling on the 690 II being sufficient... Thanks

600W can run a lot more than you think :P you'll be fine... however. Get the i5 2500k sandy bridge.

I should have said....the parts for this this build have been put together over the last couple of months, starting with the cpu/m'board combo. I bought that, very cheaply indeed, as a "safety" measure at the time that the SB issue emerged...mistake, I know now :(

Glad to hear about the psu, or was until the special offer this week!

Case & psu will be fine. But Only £8 more gets..

Coolermaster Silent Pro Gold 700W Power Supply

Thanks. The offer is too late for me, having bought the cpu/psu/mbo at the same time, but that price is fantastic....

I'm going to build in a day or two, using the 690, and see if the cooling is OK with the stock fans, though, having read the "bit-tech" review *, I suspect it may need some variation or other on the the extra cooling I mentioned in my first post.

I dont think there's much 'value' in getting an old i5 at the moment. The 2500k is only a few pounds more than the old 760. Go SB!

Thanks. Understood, but sadly too late (see above). I already have a friend interested in this system (despite the fact that it is not even built yet), so it may be that I can re-think soon....

I'm looking at what you have done with your own system, using pretty similar components. I see how heavily you have clocked the cpu. I know that the 690 will take water-cooling, but any idea what I could get away with with the air cooling I mentioned? I seem to recall reading that affordable (for me) water-cooling tends to be noisy....
