Thermalright Silver Arrow or Noctua NH-D14

i just got a nh-d14 and so far i have to say wow!

i have a q6600B3 @3.3ghz, running prime i used to reach 65.C and running intel burn test i used to get 75.C using a Tuniq Tower 120.

i just done a prime run and after 2 hrs my top temp was 45.C :D that is a 20.C :D drop
i will do an Intel burn test tonight to really test it

To test using intel burn test make sure you set it to 4 threads and select custom ram free memory that you see in task manager/performance mines normally around 2gb under win7 anyway play around with it until you get around 43-45 Gflops sec on IBT..Would be nice to compare temps with my thermalright archon on my Q6600 G0 am running 1.46 volts 3.6ghz 402x9 getting 75-80c under one fan after around 50 passes of IBT @ 45 G/flops sec.

i am running it now. i have it at 41.9 gflops and i am running 20 passes.
so far after 7 passes the max temp is 60.C
also regarding IBT, i have read wingzero30's many posts on the subject, so i am fairly familiar, but i find IBT hit and miss, on the gflops amount, even using custom ram

i remember you from a different post,
my results may differ.
i have a B3 revision, so as far as i can research, the tjmax should be 90, but the G0 is 100, so there will be some difference.

also now i have gone form 3.3 to 3.4 with 1.42v (in bios), just want to see how far i can go with this chip
and i am using 426 x 8
i will tinker some more and try to get the same gflops for a good comparison :-)

hi may i ask i am thinking of getting a nh-d14, from what you guys said the fans are rubbish on the d14, which fans would you recommend? i am still indecisive to choose between silver arrow or nh-d14. it is for a q6600 @3.5ghz with 1.45v.. Using an aging Tuniq tower 120 at the moment. cannot bench due to high temp. thnx

The fans are not rubbish at all they just aren't quite as good as the TY-14s which come with the silver arrow. The noctua fans are still among the best.

And the tuniq should be okay for 3.5 ghz don't be too worried about temps I stressed my q6600 at 3.5 under a tuniq tower and it hit 85-95c at times and was fine.

I don't think it's worth shelling out unless you can sell the tuniq tower on.

as c64 said the fans aren't rubbish, just wish i had some to test :(
i bought a used one with 2 different fans on it.

here are my results

i am still tinkering with it but i cant seem to get higher than 40 gflops.
i have tried loads of options.
the run yesterday was unstable so had to add a little vcore.
i am now at 1.45 in the bios and you can see everything else.

also regarding the different tjmax.
as the value of 'distance to tjmax' remains the same no matter what you enter into as tjmax, wheter it be 80, 90 or 100, i can say that run never went below the value of 30 to tjmax,

go for the silver arrow, virtually the same temp wise but £15 cheaper
