What should I do with my 6950?

Hey, basically I ordered a HD-695A-CNFC from OcUK, but once I received it I noticed that it was a HD-695X-CNFC.

I was really keen on unlocking it to a 6970 but now this is no longer a possibility, so I'm asking for your advice.

Should I send it back and look for a different version? or should I keep it and overclock it?

I would also like to how much a difference overclocking it would be compared to unlocking it.

Thanks :D

Future Specs:
Processor: AMD Phenom II 955 BE
Graphics Card: AMD 6950 GB?
Ram: 1 x 4GB RipJaws
Motherboard: Not sure yet will have either a 890 or 990 chipset. <- For their AM3+ sockets, recommendations are welcome.

EDIT: Forgot to say I already opened the box, but the graphics card has not been been used, or taken out of the packaging.

Send it back under DSR but u will has to pay for it to be sent back, if they are not happy with the condition of te box or any rips on it they will send it back and charge you for postage.

I have a 6950 flashed to a 6970 and tbh I didn't notice any differents to my games but only in benchmarks not overclocked!.

That advice regarding the box is wrong.

When returning something under the DSR you are obliged to keep the goods in "reasonable condition".

You are required to return the goods with all the accessories supplied but you are not required to use the original packaging.

It doesn't matter what condition the box is in as you don't even have to return the goods in the original box.

Anyhow, I would say that if OcUK have sent you a different product than was advertised then they should pay for return postage if you want to return it.

Edit

If you wanted a locked 6950 you could have bought this one with a better cooler:

MSI ATI Radeon HD 6950 Twin FrozR II 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Or this one for £6 more:

MSI ATI Radeon HD 6950 OC Twin FrozR III Power Edition 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card with FREE DIRT3 Game

Better cooler, overclocked (a bit) and a free game.

Correct Surveyor. If the product is not as advertised then OcUK should be footing the bill for a return (and this wouldn't be a DSR return).

Thanks for the advice I'll probably return it and get the 6950 OC Twin FrozR III.

I'll tell you guys if I bump into any problems.

OcUK will let you return as it was their mistake ;)

I've sent them a message to have it returned. They should contact me by tomorrow.

I'll probably go for the 6950 Twin FrozR III, is there any reason for me not to do so ?

EDIT: I just got a message from them telling me that they will refund me for the item, but does anyone know if they will refund me for the postage both ways ? because £20 in postage is quite a lot of money especially when this wasn't my fault.

Ask them.

Explain it was their mistake and you shouldn't be out of pocket.

I just contacted the customer support, and they said they will only pay £8 towards the shipping..

Does anybody know of a place which will ship for that price ?

I don't think £8 is enough for safe shipping. For example DHL is £17. Should I request more money for the shipping?

£9.05 with Royal Mail special. hey refunded me the money with my RMA. I suggest asking on the CS forums

This really bugs me. If you wanted a 6970 then buy a 6970. Buying a 6950 on the assumption that it'll unlock is essentially greedy, if it does it's nice but if not then suck it up.

The only time i'd send a card back would be if I was after a reference board for a waterblock and received a non-reference one which precluded it fitting.

Agree. I know the other things sounds like a "good" deal, but it should never be regarded as a guarantee.

I am investigating this and the description will be updated if it needs to be.

Feel free to contact via the webnote or the customer service forums http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=119

All though DSR requests don't count on the forums they have to be done in webnotes.

The pictures as you know aren't always right that's in our T's and C's but we do try to get the descriptions right.

agreed. imagine if everyone that bought AMD phenom X2/X3 chips sent them back becuase they couldnt unlock ALL 4 cores.
i know its hard if you were expecting to be able to unlock it, but even then, there is no guarantee how stable the unlock would have been, so would you then want to send it back?

WOW - im shocked at this poor customer service, even with ocuk's premium prices! if OCUK made a mistake it should be up to them to arrange/pay for the postage back, regardless of the cost - its 100% thier responsibility to get it from you back to them!!! Dont take this and let them push you around...

but yeah, if you want a 6970 just buy one - i did, they are only 240 now...

the point is they sent him something NOT AS ADVERTISED. The model numbers are DIFFERENT.

Oh yeah, under DSR they HAVE TO refund the postage you paid from initial purchase - for them to ship to you.
