The jury in the spot-fixing trial has found Salman Butt and Mohammdd Asif guilty, by a unanimous verdict, on the charge of 'conspiracy to cheat' and both guilty by a 10-2 majority decision on the charge of 'conspiracy to obtain and accept corrupt payments'.

Their guilt was so unbelievably obvious. I was actually at Lord's on the day, and I remember seeing the no balls and thinking 'Christ, that's massive'.

Good verdict, but it means nothing in terms of fixing corruption in cricket until the ICC acts upon this. Amir pleaded guilty before the trial even started.

The maximum sentence for the charge of accepting corrupt payments is 7 years, and seeing as Butt was the captain of the team, and Asif has been arrested in the past, I can see them getting some jail time at least.

until someone leans on the judge because of political implications

I would be surprised to see them jailed for any length of time - maybe in one door out the other.

As for cricket, like any sport there will always be currupt players or other individuals. Just so much money involved its sadly inevitable.

What did the other two plead though?

Obviously they didnt plead guilty did they??

Im kind of bitter sweet about all this as im a huge supporter of pak cricket but seeing as Asif and Butt were the main culprits im in a way glad they have been found guilty....means that Butt will never play for pak again which makes me happy as i never liked him as a player...didnt think he deserved to be captain tbqh. Im sad that Asif has never learnt from his past mistakes as he was an immense bowler, at his peak but yet still fell off his lofty perch.

The most disappointing thing is that Amir got caught up in all this...18 yrs old and already his career is in tatters...shame really.

As for them getting jail time its hard to say...guess we will find out later on today.

Love it, some guy was on 5live saying it was entrapment but forgot to mention a senior person in the PAKISTANI camp was the one to alert the NotW, punish of not playing cricket again for a way of living is enough. Some times it needs to be brought to the public's attention at least then it cant be swept under the carpet by the ECB.

Greed is good.

They have no balls, hence the reason for the enquiry.

hARR HARR HAARRR

That comment is pretty wide of the mark, given the over all severity of the situation. Did you expect people to crease up with laughter? Pure thread padding, nothing more. Lets hope the mods hit you out of the park before you throw us another one.

For a couple of seconds, I thought what a stuck up.......

I quickly realised my initial error in understanding your humour :p:o

Sorry, I have a wicket sence of humour. I'll bail out of the thread now, as I'm boundry to be stumped by the mods.

I think you should leg before the mods catch you. Your best chance is to drive off. But actually don't worry, most likely they will simply sweep this issue aside without so much as a glance. You know how the moderating is on here, they don't give a full toss, unless you're from York. Yep, they just discrminate against those damn Yorker. Balls.

You are overstepping the boundary - I will appeal if a mod blocks me as I'm not one to hide under the covers. You could always just be the better man and dismiss what I say
I'm tired of trying to think of puns as it's a bit of a slog, so I'm out this thread - bye.

Howzthat?!!!!!!!!!!
