Arctic Announces Massive Accelero Twin Turbo 690

'For those who think the $1000 GTX 690’s heatsink isn’t enough, Arctic has announced their new Accelero Twin Turbo 690.

Sporting two massive, yet quiet 120mm fans, ten heatpipes and 86 dense aluminum fins, the Twin Turbo 690 can disperse up to 400W of heat. As a result, it is supposed to shave off 12°C from the GTX 690’s already-low temperature while also featuring a much smaller acoustical footprint. Unfortunately, the Accelero Twin Turbo 690 takes up three expansion slots and it still dumps this substantial amount of heat back into your case.

The GTX 690’s heatsink design is supposed to be one of the most advanced around due to its inclusion of high end materials and engineering innovations that allow for lower temperatures despite the dual GK104 cores and 4GB of GDDR5 memory sitting on the PCB. NVIDIA’s design seems to be perfectly suited for its intended use.

Why would anyone want to demolish a $1000 graphics card that is already cool, quiet and composed? As Arctic is demonstrating, there are always improvements to be made, even if the replaced design is nearly perfect to begin with. However, the real question here is whether anyone is willing to drop $170 (USD) for an Accelero Twin Turbo after spending so much on this generation’s most expensive graphics card.'

Wow, don't know how loud it is in the first place but this would get my vote-although the price is mental!

I would not want to get rid of the sexual metallic beauty of the 690 stock cooler thanks. Seriously why would anyone

The 6990 version costs ~£80 now, but at launch, it was more like £120 iirc.

When running Heaven, or anything majorly taxing that isn't using v-sync, my cards will start heating up to 60C+ before eventually creeping up and beyond 70C. I have a custom fan profile that attempts to keep them below 70, with the fans running at 100% at this temperature but it doesn't seem to be enough.

2X100% fan can't be quiet at all, if you hate fan noise and want to keep four keplers under control then that's what it takes if you don't want to use water.

The problem is people compare the GTX 690 to a GTX 680 for temps. The fact of is a GTX 690 does run above 70c but that in itself is no big deal. Its not like their up there with a GTX 480 for max temps.

I'm not bothered about the noise tbh, I wear a headset+mic when playing games anyway.

Can see this colour would be an improvement on noise, but you'd lose an already decent looking cooler and the LED "GEFORCE GTX" writing on the side.

+1

In a badly ventilated case it could work worse than the stock cooler as more heat will be dumped in the case. Worse still where its a triple slot affair 2 GTX 690s in sli are going to be a bit cramped. At least on a R4E mobo theres plenty of room around the standard cards.

Loved my old s1 few years back but they are still settling for cheapo vrm cooling better off just buying a non reference card to start with these days the twin fanned / 3 fanned jobbys are virtually as good as arctic coolings range I'd be shocked if there's more than a few c difference between a gigabyte windforce and an AC solution.
Somewhere along the line they lost the plot and put their prices to silly money they are meant to be all about affordable budget aftermarket cooling £50+ for any gpu heatsink is madness. If I am paying this sort of money I want copper.

690 cooler is great
the only reason you would change it is to watercool

maybe it has a facepalm on the box^^

The noise difference between a WF and an AC Extreme is night and day in comparison, when the WF hits 60c it ramps up considerably in comparison, although it's the first AIB cooler I've used that's inaudible@stock in my system(I hate noise)so it's almost there.

I can't complain about AC, bought an 5870 Extreme ~2½ years ago for my 5870, it's been sitting on a 6950>70 and can fit the 79's too(with a £2.50 shim).

for better overclocking? As there is no 3rd party 690 on market.

If overclocking is your priority its a lot cheaper to buy a pair of GTX 680s and with the money you save on that cooler you could also get a good SLI qualified mobo and still have change for a few beers.:D
