Help with Outlook Exchange account on an Android

Hey guys,

My new company uses Microsoft Outlook/Microsoft Exchange for email.
Is the default Android mail client the only way to access an MS Exchange account? Likewise for the default calendar app to access my Exchange calendar?

Does anyone have experience forwarding Exchange to gmail? With the amount of task/contact/calendar features in Exchange, I wonder if trying to forward to a gmail account will just be a mess.

I guess I'm looking for overall advice on making the most of an MS Exchange account on an Android device.
 
There are other apps like Touchdown for Exchange access.

To be honest you're probably best off speaking to your Exchange administrator and see what the company policy is for mobile devices, it might be that you can't access from outside the company network and I'm sure forwarding work related emails to an external address will probably be frowned upon.

Maybe you have to switch pin lock on your mobile ?
My company security policy requires pin code lock on mobile or password. Otherwise, it wont connect to exchange server.
 
Ah well it looks like I've managed to set it up just using the default mail app....works well enough. And the Exchange calendar syncs with the default calendar app as well so that'll do too.

You can't have it setup correctly because I get my entire folder tree (including sub directories). The only thing the default one doesn't do/do properly are notifications for sub folders and, by default, downloading emails.

As for the OP. Watch out with the calendar app. I was downloading my caps worth of data on my journey to and from work (about 20 minutes each way), which was about the only time it was ever not on wireless. Anyway, in that time it burnt through 750MB of data over the month because of something in my calendar. I am still yet to figure out what it was, but something was causing it. I now have 1 or 2 items in there and I have used about 3MB on everything data in a week.

Oh and just as a note, I would average about 4GB a month just on Exchange on wireless. Imagine if I was on capped internet connection!
