Currently I have a faulty Motherboard ,its a striker II extreme and after an extensive thread elsewhere on this board I'm ditching it.

This means I now need a new mobo, cpu, and ram.

Here is the proposed system, whilst I am aware the chipset on the motherboard is no longer the latest It is comming in at around 60 quid brand spanking new which is a big factor as I've shelled out a lot replacing gfx, psu etc trying to trouble shoot the other board.

The use of this machine is that I want to edit video (HD), edit pictures, play top end games and write code in visual studio 2012.

I am open to suggestions on an after market cooler (air based)

Now the idea before you see the specs is that in a little while once my finances are better I dump the mobo and get a slightly better ivybridge based one so please keep that in mind when commenting as I don't want to replace the CPU again :)

New parts:

Asus sabretooth p67 (flashed to latest bios)
Intel Core i7-3770K 3.50GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - OEM
Corsair CML16GX3M4A1600C9B LP Vengeance 16GB 1600MHz CL9 DDR3 Four Module Kit
Samsung 840 Series 250GB 2.5 inch SATA Solid State Drive

Existing parts:

Corsair AX850 PSU
Asus 560ti gfx card
Soundcard is Creative XFI (may dump this depending on onboard audio)
WD Caivar Black 1tb drive
Samsung spinpoint 1tb drive.
DVD burner.

All of this goes in an antec 900 II case (my little wind tunnel).

Looking at your other thread, you're upgrading from LGA775?

That set of components is good. I would personally go for Z77X-UP4 TH, but the Sabertooth is a popular board.

The rest is fine. And with that lot, probably a chunky CPU cooler (K2 Mount Doom, NH-D14, ...).

I would also take 2x8GB, low profile memory, instead of 4x4GB. Leaves you with a possible easy upgrade, and less components to go wrong.

If you want to save a little, a 2700K is a good alternative for £40 less. Both motherboard and CPU, leaves you money for a NH-D14, or some other cooler that will fit the Antec.

Wow thanks for that advice I agree that perhaps 2x8 is better any makes in mind? The Sabertooth is happening because a mate has a spare shrink wrapped and 60 quid is a great deal pushing down to a 2700K is something I may do

Ok so i built my new machine, things to note a Zero Infinity Phantom Knight CPU Cooler will not sit in a antec 902 case with the side fan mounted :( take the fan out and its great though

Id personally leave the side fan out. Direct front to rear airflow is ideally how you want your case setup. Sidefans can help when running multiple gpu's though.

Yeah I did do a quick test it was making 0 difference aside looking nice with leds.. its no loss but I thought people would like to know :)
