So over night my system has crashed and it's a right old mess now...

Specs
  • Intel 2500k
  • MSI Mpower Z77
  • 8GB Muskin ram
  • Sapphire 5770
  • Bequiet 630W PSU
  • 1x60GB Crucial m4 & 2X1tb Samsung f3's

so I first tried a restart, did a looooong reboot loop, finally made it to windows 8 boot screen, rebooted again ..got stuck doing this so went to bios.

Mouse froze, auto Rebooted, Got back into bios assuming this was temperature problem, However cpu is 30's and motherboard sensor at 23... Did the usual things like reset cmos and went to boot again, started to get long hangs before post and fast reboots.

So I had planned to strip it all and and rebuild, testing one component at a time, I took of the side panel and remember about the status led's and readouts on the motherboard. Theirs several about the RAM slots on the Mpower Z77

I noticed one in particular LED "DrMos" was glowing red... The manual tells me sod all..Googling however pointed me to many threads which resulted in RMAing...for some it was a simple clearcmos to fix, other a PSU change

So I've
  • Watched temps...all good, Not overclocking, been running stock for a while now.
  • Changed ram
  • Swapped out the PSU
  • Changed GPU
  • Reseated cooler
  • Inspected the board for damage
  • Also this mobo had a physical switch for the two bioses, both the same results...

As it stand It's a 50/50 to even post, when it does it crashes at windows 8 logo, trys to repair and just hangs/reboots. Even just sitting in the bios with no drives or anything atached, I get hangs and reboot while it's idling...

So the dilemma I'm having is CPU or motherboard?..I can't get access to others to test... Bu i'm thinking the fact DRmos is red is the motherbiard

About to submit and RMA request, anything else I can try?

Yeah the board has a reset CMOS button on the I/O area, did this for both Bios A & B, its resets for sures (all settings default) but no fix.

hi yeah get the button but I have had issues when resetting a bios were it looks like its reset but only removing the cemos battery for a few mins then plugging it back in and restarting resolved the issue but if you have done that then it does indeed look like an RMA unless someone else has had the same issue ??

The m4...Yeah I just back it back from RMA about two weeks ago also...not having much luck lately. It's updated, these issues are present with a 1tb hard too and no SSD attached...will try the battery method and then call it a day

Thanks for the helps fella, Had a mate loan me his 2600k today, no good same issues. Raised RMA, Bit gutted really my First MSI board:D

I'd try the motherboard, cpu, ram plugged into the psu outside the case on a non-conductive surface. I use the MB box it came in.

If that posts ok, keep adding things until you find the culprit.

Oh well I was packing it this morning for RMA and saw two missing pins in the socket...Makes zero sense, thing has had a 2500k installed from day one ( about 8 weeks ago) ran fine untill this begun...in the bin it goes :(

Yeah i bought the mpower z77 and had usb issues tryed everything installed re installing drivers, although thankfully nothing as bad as youve encountered had to send it back im now happy memeber of the gigabyte mobo club i hope you either get a good one or a refund and get your self a very good mobo
