I tried to update my motherboard to BIOS version 4.3 so i can upgrade to Ivybridge. The update rebooted twice and then i lost the display. The USB pen was in all the time. I waited 30+ minutes before rebooting. I now have no display. Powered off and cleared CMOS to no success. Its it pretty much bricked now?

Thanks.

did you leave cmos battery out for 30 minutes

not sure if those boards have dual bios? check to see if the actual bios chip pulls out,if so you can order another one with latest bios on it off fleabay

This suggests it has a dual bios, http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/MSI-P67A-GD65-Motherboard/1142/5

I just need to find out how to switch between them.

LED Status Indicators :

Dual BIOS LED (P67A-GD65) The Dual BIOS LED indicates the BIOS status during system power on. Follow the instructions below to read.
Off: Normal.
Blink (1 cycle/second): The primary BIOS is failed.
Fast Blink (10 cycles/second): The second BIOS is failed. Solid: Both of primary and second BIOS are failed.

I did the update with the Sandybridge CPU inserted, should i have done it with the Ivybridge?

I currently have the bios battery out.

nah you did the right thing,it would loop if you tried with ivybridge cpu

there's a way to get the backup bios to kick in and recover the main bios but idk how its done on msi boards

can try holding front power button in,turn on rear psu switch, soon as it lights up/fans spin switch off at the psu switch

do that two or three times then power up normally

try with the bios switch set to original bios on the 6950,its probably that conflicting with the new mb bios

if your not seeing the mb bios led light then it should still be fine

Thank you sir. Switched the BIOS on the gfx and i have a working PC. I checked the motherboard BIOS version which is now 4.3. Time to install the 3770K.

Thank you.

I'd be interested to know how you find running a 3770K on this board with the updated bios. I have the GD80 version and have been considering doing the same.

I find it strange that it was the BIOS i was using that caused that issue. At least i didnt have to buy another motherboard :)

I have the 3770k, 290 and a new Corsair 850w psu installed now. I havent had chance to play any games yet. I think i have read that the OC Genie doesnt work or doesnt work as well with overclocking like with Sandybridge. What can i use to test the performance?

I have enabled to OC Genie on the motherboard.

tried for 4.5ghz?

msi probably didn't include the fix for the 6950/70 flash in the newer bios's? or it would have worked on the flashed bios
