Speedfan causes BSOD on Windows 8.1, is there an alternative?

I recently installed a 120MM fan on the side of my case and at full speed it is very loud, rather than buying a fan controller I was looking for a piece of software that can control the fan. Speedfan seemed perfect however every time I load it up I just get a BSOD. I did some Googling and it seems to be a common issue and I wasn't able to find a way to fix it.

Can anyone recommend some alternative software so that I can control the fan?

Cheers

There's very few alternatives out there :( the only good one ive found was argus monitor. It's a paid prog but there are quite a few older free versions around or I'm sure an enterprising person could easily find the latest version for free on certain sites :D

Indeed. Is it only fan controller things that crash system?

What about core temp? I know it isn't a fan control but I wonder if windows is having issues with reporting temps  wonder if core temp will crash it as well.

CoreTemp was crashing my system at first aswell but I did a Google and lots of other people were affected. I contacted the developer who sent me a BETA which now works without issue.

Still really need some fan control software though. :(
