Hi everyone, upgraded my 7950 to a 970 last night, now when booting I'm getting stuck at a black screen with the "B2" code in the bottom right hand corner. Had no such issue beforehand with my old 7950 and no such issue with the onboard graphics.

It hangs at B2 for around 30-60 seconds then artifacts and boots as normal working fine after that.

Motherboard is a Z68A GD55 G3 with a 2500k.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is driving me mad.

(Somehow in amongst all this my keyboard seems to have been fried as well R.I.P. QPAD Mk-85)

Some posts are saying it is a FW issue?

https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=162861.0

Quite a few posts from other manufacturers as well pointing towards upgrading FW

Noticed a few people saying that myself, however the latest BIOS I can find for this board is as old as 2013? Also says its not recommended to be used unless you have and Ivy-Bridge or above CPU

anything in the bios legacy devices? and tried disabling full screen logo?

put old gpu in and set those settings/save exit and install new gpu

I don't think that would help, did you disable full screen logo?

Yeah the full screen logo is disabled now, thats stopped the artifacting before booting, I'm still hanging at the B2 screen for 30-60 seconds though.

Everything I've read seems to point to an out of date Mobo BIOS, but the only updated ones I seem to find are recommended not to use if you have anything below Ivy-Bridge.

who says not to use if you have a sandy cpu? msi themselves?

usually they are ok to use

the hanging is usually a detection/mb bios issue

Aye it says so on the MSI website itself. I've made a post on their forums to see if anyone can clarify it there so fingers crossed.
