I kinda wish I was you just to know the joy of upgrading from that.
Oh I know, I meant upgrade in the sense of a new computer, not parts.
Out of interest, does the board support the early Core 2's? Because they would offer a titanic speed increase and make the machine perfectly serviceable for a few more years.
Even the E6300 at 1.8Ghz is a faster processor that the Pentium D. You could pick up a first gen E6700 or something for literally pennies...maybe a fiver. Even if the machine never did anything other than browse the web and play older games it would make a big difference.
better psu, better graphic card, pent D 9** and you will have a decent machine
I'll stick with my actual plans
the fun is in the challenge. do the upgrades and overclock if possible, it would be quite interesting and entertaining to see what it can do
There is nothing can be done with a Pentium D. It's hot, it's under-powered, it's slow.
If the board supports the 1st gen Core 2's, then that would be a viable 5 quid upgrade that would make a big difference. Maybe spend another fiver on some more DDR2 ram.
Other than that, it's end game for the machine.
