Since a couple of motors threads seem to be plagued with this topic, why don't we do it here?
What are the advantages/disadvantages of it then, and any other related stuff?

Main advantage - you have your own place.
Main disadvantage - you have your own bills.

surely you can work this one out yourself? :o or do you need other people to think for you?

Ok... so here goes.

Advantages:
a place of your own
do what you like...
.. when you like
...how you like
...with who you like. are you gay?

without anyone else interfering really, or having to put up with their shenanigans.

Disadvantages:
-Bills
-on your own... loanly?
-more responsibility, rather than shared. (however is an advantage and disadvantage.
-paying to furnish and decorate the place + if anything goes wrong

if you got the money and want to be freeeeee. do so.

if you live at home, you can just quite your job anytime and not worry about bills. obviously you cant do this for ever!

but if youve got rent or mortgage, your're in the rat race

Because it's more fun doing it in Motors? :D

Some people seem to act as if moving out is a choice. It isn't, it's when you move out, not if.

I find it quite interesting the number of young people these days who seem to spend a fortune on cars, computer upgrades, expensive watches and so on, while living with their parents; surely the money would be better spent living in their own place, or at the least, saving up for the day when they move out. Do they perhaps not realise how expensive it will be, I'm not sure.

Aye, but it's nice to live like an emperor for the couple of years in your life when it's possible to do so.

I can't say I regret doing it.

till you get a girlfirend/wife that is :D

its all about space, the one reason i need to move out before i slowly go insane.

unfortunately the UKs current prices make that highly unlikely before im 30.

I couldn't imagine not moving out as soon as it became feasible, I don't think I could ever feel properly 'grown up' if I was still living at home, sure it costs a lot more, but the intangible feeling of total independence is priceless and worth more to me than any toys I could buy with the extra money.

advantage - parents are idiots - good to distance yourself from your parents
I'm sure your parents speak very highly of you too...

As you think they are idiots, I am sure that you have moved out of their home right?

This is what it feels like to me as well. Everytime I go to my parents home now it feels strange.

It's awesome!

When I first moved out here to China, it was with a company who provided my pay (obviously) with an apartment with all utilities and rent paid.

6 months later, they decided to fire me and leave me with nothing. So instead of going home I just went about getting my own place. It's a little more hassle with having to pay rent, bills, extra charges etc etc, as well as finding out about the area yourself (well, that's true for me)...

I only moved out two weeks ago and, at first, it felt really horrible and lonely. But then the realisation that this place, although not 'mine', was indeed mine. I start moving crap around, doing what I wanted, when I wanted, where I wanted and now it feels very free. I go out shopping for food myself, do my laundry, work out the bills. It's all actually quite fun. Even when you don't have a lot of money to live from! haha
