These seem to have got quite good reviews on a few sites I've seen... Has anyone tried one of these in a Macbook and if so how much better was it compared to a normal mechanical HD?

A quick google on these show they don't beat the Velociraptor at all.

Haven't been able to find a comparison with the F3, which comes in at half the price for twice the capacity (raid anyone?)

Ive got one in my netbook, it boots almost as fast as my pc with a ocz vertex 2e :)

Ok maybe not quite as good as that but 45secs from off to usable desktop pretty good if you ask me

Hmmm, interesting, if anyone finds any decent reviews, please post the links. May have a serious look at these when I'm upgrading at Xmas.

These will be tested shortly as a single drive and as a raid setup if raid works (which I'm certain it will).

As for these beating the raptor... They do in 90% of what you use a pc for everyday. Faster boot, faster response, faster reads and writes white it counts. Thats what matters :)

They do in typical usage, its only in some benchmarks they loose out. For me I'll take real world usage anyday. :)

Ideal for laptops and desktops too due to the 2.5" size and a pair in RAID 0 should be extremely good, or even 4 of them for 2TB capacity. :)

Remember the random access on these is like 0.3ms which is SSD territory. :D

Another thing I've just noticed is they seem too close together in price. I realise in pounds-difference it's basically the difference in the value of the hard disks - with the ssd part remaining the same in each.

However... that means in percentage terms the prices are similar. Won't everyone go for the 500?

ive no idea what all this means but a quick screenshot from my 250gb one on my netbook

hmmm i just changed a setting in the bios as it had LBA mode or whatever set to DOS, im currently rerunning the tests and it looks a lot better :) also ACHI is set to auto so im not sure if that is on or off?

Heres the rerun

I like the idea of these but how does it work in terms of maintenance? Would win 7 pick them up as an SSD, do they have trim, do you defrag them etc?

Its something I shall find out for you. With it being a hard disc at heart I should imagine it will require a defrag where as the SSD part will no doubt not appear as a writable mass to format. A bit like a massive permanent buffer even though it has its own buffer too!

Doesnt show as anything different than a usual hdd to me, ive got 100mb system reserved and 232.78gb NTFS in drive management
