apart from the obvious non widescreen on a standard TFT monitor, are there many differences in the quality of display between the 2 types assuming them both to be similar quality?

Ive just attached the 360 to the TFT and its a great picture so apart from the size of display would an LCD TV look much different.

Thanks

Not really. The pixels are larger on the TVs due to their larger size, and the resolution is usually lower.

For a games console, a TV is almost always better. For a PC, a monitor is always better.

Boogle ,Hi
So if the resolution is lower on the LCD tv wouldnt that then make the TFT a better choice? dont the better LCD TV's go to higher resolutions comparable to a monitor?

thanks

Well the Dell 2405 (24") is 1920x1200. The highest resolution of any LCD TV is 1366x768 (that includes the massive 37-42" ones). A 17" LCD is 1280x1024, however most 26" LCD TVs are 1280x760 (some are 1366x768).

Of course for TV, the lower resolution is better since its clearer and doesn't need to resize the image. For a monitor, the higher the resolution the better. 1080i (and 1080p) is 1366x768. A 1:1 pixel mapping always results in the best image quality possible.

But if the TV is lower resolution surely the higher res monitor would be clearer not the other way round as you posted?

(sorry if I'm missing something)
thanks

Basically the best resolution to have is the same as the resolution of the signal. So if your console outputs 1366x768 then it's best to have a screen thats 1366x768.

1080i and 1080p are 1920x1080 resolution.

Oh, sorry, was very wrong there. Wow, thats quite high res :D Might have to buy a Dell 2405FPW ;)

/note to self <resolutions>

most games on the Xbox 360 are 1280x720p so i would "personnally" go for any LCDTV that supported that rez, otherwise the image is scaled and you lose image quality.

I've got a 26" LCD TV which displays at 1280x768 and its fine for the xbox 360 and pc use.

Whilst I can't crank the resolution up as high as a monitor the other functionality, screen size and price swung it for me.

I hooked mine upto my 19" tft and as said its a great picture just the borders annoy me now, they even bigger when you put it in 1280x1024 and looks terrible if u put it in widescreen mode, time for a hdtv for me.

PGR3 in 1280x1024 stretches the image so for example the dials on the bumper view look like ovals, this may be happening with doa4 too.

There should be borders and kameo has borders in 1024x768 and 1280x1024 i recall somone saying the 360 outputs in widescreen as standard so you will get borders on games unless on a widescreen screen.
