X800 GTO2 Generation 3 a Rip off ?

i just got my GTO2 Replaced due to a fault in the card which made the pc reboot & the card i got in it's place is completely different to the one i had replaced which i only bought in mid january is there a version 3 of the card out now ? as this one is blue & ony has 1 dvi & no 6 pin power connector

Does this card not need power ???

You now have a GTO2 which is based on the R430 core (As used in the X800XL).

These unlock just the same but unfortunately do not clock as high.

The X800xl doesn't need an extra power connector which is why the newest versions of the GTO2 don't either.

Right i have a problem now
As this isn't the R480 core as was advertised do i have the right to return the card as this wasn't what i thought i was buying (didn't get it from here) can i return it for a full refund ?? (so i can get the next one from here :) )

Also if i am allowed to return it then i will need to buy a new card to replace it mainly i use my card for gaming COD2 Etc any recomendations ? basicly i have about £150 ish to spend i have noticed that the PowerColor ATI Radeon X850 XT is £146.82 is that a decent card ? or is their better

is their any better out their would a Nvidia card be better 6800 Etc i don't think i can stretch to ther 7 series or does the powercolor knock spots of everything else around it for the price ?

If advertised as R480 core & your card doesnt have an R480 core then your in your rights to return it. Whether you get refund or replacement may not be up to you.

BTW ...
IMO the X850XT is best card you can get for that price.!

Just had a right Ding Dong of an Argument with the returns Dept at e-b***r  they are basicly claiming that at Stock Speeds the card still performs Exactly the same which is Correct But i argued the WHOLE reason i bought the card was because it came with the R480 core so i could overclock it at the end of it's life so i could get a little longer use out of it this argument went back and forth for about 20 mins until he either got really bored of me repeating myself or agreed i had a point :p and said i should return it to them for a full refund :D

Also they have changed their site & taken out the part which said it came with the R480 core & also clamied it was never on their site & that i was lying so i informed him i had taken Screen dumps of it & could prove it (which i have ) and then they admitted it & agreed to refund which still might not go through but at least i'm on the right track so will hopefully be on here soon to get my new card suggestions still welcome :)

Hate that site, so hard to do anything. OcUK has been the best place for me to buy my components, not just for the cheap prices but the ease of use and the amazing delivery service.

Not so long ago ocuk had a dreadfull RMA nightmare, seem to be fixing it and phones going unanswered sems to be sorted going by what I read here last week.

We won't deny that our phones were terrible and thats why we spent so much time in getting the correct phone system and extra staff to man those phones. Now calling OcUK and getting through is much easier and were able to monitor the phones and do reports so we can see how good of a job is been done. :)

well the r430 IS a 16 pipe core just like the r480 so you really dont have a leg to stand on. You're lucky you caught them out.

Caught them out  they advertised it as coming with a R480 Core & it came with a R430 core surely thats a trading standards issue as false advertising

I'm really stuck for a little choice now as i'm after a PCI-e card the main choice is the Powercolor X850XT which i know is a super fast card but i've also been looking at the HIS Excalibur ATI Radeon X1600 XT ICEQ Turbo 256MB DDR3 AVIVO here it use's gddr3 memory so i thought i looked a reasonable card

or waiting for the price of 7800's price to come down a little & save some up as people keep banging on about shader 3.0

Basicly i don't wanna make another mistake so Should i buy the X850 or try and get a g-card with Shader 3.0

yes exactly - he caught them out. The gto2's themselfs were never advertised by sapphire as having a specific core so its that retailers fault for stating a core version.

if they never said it was an r480 - he wouldnt have a leg to stand on, like i said.

Yeah, you got a point there. ;) If he said it didnt overclock to the level he was expecting he still wouldnt have a leg to stand on ... but he didnt ... and they did state it was an r480.

Yeah, but it doesn't have to be an R480 core does it, they may not have any R480 cores left, they have to replace it with either the same/or better performance, so if they didn't have any ATi cards in at all, but sent him the equivalent performing Nvidia one, is he still going to phone up and say 'its not an R480 core as advertised' , somehow i doubt it as its impossible. :D

If it performs the same as the R480 core at stock, then they have done their job correctly, and you need to fully star out the competitor as everyone knows who it is from that, he should still be able to get a refund though, so its no good bad mouthing them if they have done their job correctly, if OcUK sent someone the equvalent Nvidia performing card as their ATi one went **** up, would you bad mouth them as well, no because they have replaced it with the equivalent performing card, which they have to do.

it does perform the same - identically. they are both 16 pipeline cores as i've said. the problem is, most people don't realise that overclocking is never gaurenteed unless it is specifically stated.

Agreed, they perform the same, so they have done their job correctly as i said, so they can't be bad mouthed. :)

How is it a trading standards issue, if you orderd an ATi card from here, it went **** up, but OcUK didn't have any more of those cards, so replaced it with the equaling performing Nvidia one (which they have to do), would you say thats a trading standards issue as its a totally different card, as the one you bought was an ATi and the replacment is clearly not an ATi one. :D

done their job correctly? if your car was under warrenty to me and i took your car away for repairs, kitted it out with cheaper components that worked the same, instead of the good quality ones that you originally paid for,

woul you say i had done my job correctly?

theres nothing right about giving a person back a card with a cheaper design, regardless of whether it performs the same or not.
