The postie arrived today and Mrs.taliesyn asked me to open a suspicious brown box carefully. I did so, and inside was a plastic tank, heatmat, substrate, locusts, a bark hide, plant, a brilliant handwritten care sheet with feeding instructions, tank diagrams and contact details, and a bright yellow tub with holes in the top and the word "SPIDER" written on it in magic marker!

We'd been talking about how I'd like to keep a tarantula, and that I'd get one at some point, and she'd been off and done all the research, looked at all the websites like the BTS and so on without me knowing, and gone off and bought me one as a present. Brilliant! Even more brilliant as she is a complete and utter arachnophobe, and cringes just by looking at pictures of them!

I am now the very proud owner of a Curly Hair Tarantula (Brachypelma albopilosum)

I shall be bothering everyone incessantly for advice, and pictures will no doubt be forthcoming once Curly is settled in :)

Sends shivers through me just thinking about them. I was in bed last night thinking about this:

Awww a curly hair. You can always poke me on msn if you need anything. The people over at the British Tarantula Society will always help out too when they can.

Welcome to the world of tarantulas, one will never be enough :)

I must admit I was a bit nervous when I opened the tub  :)

Mrs.t jumped back about 3 feet when she saw that piccy Lt. Manlove :D

Thanks Barbie. I'm sure I'll be taking you up on that offer :)

Thanks.
We think it's a curly hair, it's a bit hard to tell at this age. We rescued it from the bottom of a spidertank that we purchased with an adult A.Purpurea in. We were told the previous owner had lost several curly hair spiderlings, so that's the best suspect for what this one is, but i guess we'll just have to wait and see. :)

You think they want a package marked "Live Spider" sat in the office too long?! lol

I have had insects delivered myself many times by royal fail, they never seem to mess these deliveries up!

Infact, im thinking i might mark all my packages "Live insects" to deter thieves :p

They obviously don't know what's in there! :p

They all have stickers on them saying "Live Insects", so they know there's some kind of creepy crawlies in the box.
