BFG 6800GS OC (AGP) - Driver Problem

Good morning all!

I encountered a problem whilst installing the driver for my new BFG card this morning, and I am wondering if anyone else has experienced the same?

Prior to install, I removed my Hercules Radeon 9800pro through the Control Panel as per usual; booted to Safe Mode and used Driver Cleaner Pro; installed new card; booted to WinXP and ran the latest Forceware Driver (81.98).

Once it had extracted all the files, an error message popped up saying something along the lines of "cannot detect hardware relating to the software install", and quits!! Hmmmmm!

I downloaded the driver again in-case it was corrupted, but the same thing happened. Also tried using the device manager to manually install the thing but alas no joy.
I ended up using the driver from the bundled BFG CD...

PS. Would I have needed to change any settings in the BIOS to reflect the bigger memory, bearing in mind I am upgrading from a 128mb 9800pro?
I ran the free edition of 3D Mark05 and got a result of *EDIT 4531, not 5153 as previously stated*.

PPS. I saw some recent threads asking about the fan noise from the 6800GSs - for those curious, the BFG card is disctinctly audible but I wouldn't classify it as noise (I am used to the silent running of my previous Artic-Cooled Hercules card).
I have bought a Zalman VGA cooler also, but just cannot be bothered installing it just yet!

I ran the free edition of 3D Mark05 and got a result of 5153: not a significant leap over my previous card.

i had same prob with ocuk 6800gs there is nothing wrong with your hardware but i dont think 81.89 support this card. Im using 83.40 at the mo and it works fine

that is quite a good score for 3dmark 05 with this card. I think you are comparing it to 3dmark 03 scores because there is no way a 9800 pro would get anywhere near that score

with the memory thing- i would set agp apeture to 128 or 256 depending on your system. there is little difference between the settings on my pc but there is a huge leap from 64 in games like rfactor etc

Thanks for the reply dude!
The new 3D Mark05 score overwritten the last one in the ORB, and I can't remember what it was previously, so I probably did over-estimate by 2000 or so marks!

*EDIT Yes I did get the scores mixed up. Actual 3DMark05 score is now 4,531 with the 6800GS and 10,109 on 3DMark03. This is compared to 5,153 on 3DMark03 with the old Radeon 9800pro.

actually thinking about it that score is almost 1000 higher than my OCUK card on similar systems so i guess the BFG overclock is a goodn, if only i'd waited another week :(
