Hi Guys,

I've currently got a BFG 7800 GTX 512 OC and am thinking of going across to ATi for a while in the form of an X1900XT-X. Is it worth the upgrade? If I flog the card will I see much in the way of a performance gain. My rig is in my sig and I play mainly FPS games (BF2, HL2, COD2, SWAT4 etc) but also play some others such as NFUS2 and so on.

Also, assuming I can flog the card for what I paid for it, I'd be pretty much quids in and make a few pennies too!

Thanks a load all,

Agent

Hey, tbh i dont think it's really worth changing, There wont be a huge performance difference and it would just be a waste of money. Why not wait to see if the 7900 is worth it?

edit: Wouldnt be a waste of money actually :p

Mmm, I would be tempted with the 7900 but I'm just way too impatient...

Do you think its realistic to think that I could get a fair wack of the money I paid for it back? (I got one of the first ones from OcUK if you remember the price...)

But thanks for the reply Benjo.

if you can get enough from the 7800GTX 512mb to cover the cost of the X1900XTX it would be worth it. you would get a faster card, at no cost.

Hi there

I definetely think its worth changing, let me explain:-

1. If you sell your 7800 GTX 512MB now you will probably get what you paid for, maybe even make a profit, especially considering its a BFG model. Get it on Ebay or the MM and you will no doubt sell it easily at no loss.
2. If you wait for 7900 GTX 512, then you 7800 GTX 512 will be worth very little money as nobody will want one once 7900's are widely available and possibly for less too, maybe around £399 +VAT new for a 7900 GTX 512.
3. Upgrading to an X1900 XT-X is that, an upgrade its better in more or less every aspect plus you will have change left over too and its good for OcUK as they get to sell another card. :D

Basically if you wait, your not gonna get much for your 7800 GTX....
If you sell now you will get good money, be able to buy an X1900 and have change. Come when the 7900 GTX is released you may decide to keep the ATI if you get hooked on the improved image quality or otherwise sell it for hardly no less as the prices are definetely increasing, no doubt to around the £350-£400+VAT area for an XT-X.....

Agreed. :)

I had a sneeky suspision I would get your attention Gibbo :p

That aside, It does most certainly seem like a no-brainer if I can flog it for what I paid for it, or just near it.

I think after that the extra power will be waisted 'cos i'm only using a 19" TFT which only goes upto 1280x1024. But that could change to the massive apply jobby you guys have kicking around now...

But what i'm after is a sharper image quality, do we know what AA and AF the X1900XT-X offers in comparison to my current card?

Thanks again for the advice guys.

Well I've played COD2 on a 30" DELL with a Crossfire X1900 system and a 7800 GTX 512 system. The ATI was noticably better, sharper images and more more vibrant colours, it was as if you could see things that you could not before if that makes any sense?

Only a month ago all our system were NVIDIA only, but now were building lots of X1800 and X1900 based systems, plus they are proving very popular with an Ultima X1900 XT-X system for just £999 +VAT. :)

Gibbo you don't know if ati are going support 1680x1050 on 24" lcd's with the xt1900xt-x some time very soon....
My xt1900xt-x not supporting this resolution on my Dell 2405FPW was a very big let down for me..

Ok, before we get too kerazy with prices here...

1) I'm still a bit shakey about Multi-GPU systems after having an SLi Setup with 2x 6800GTs (my first system from OcUK). So thinking about going for Crossfire seems less attractive.
2) Will a x1900xtx be powerful enough to run a 30" Dell or will it just be wasting too much money on such a large screen and only one card?
3) Gibbo, if you would care to PM me, I'd like to talk more "privatly" about specs and so on, I wanna keet that bit away from the forums for reasons you will discover if you PM me...

Hi m8

1. Crossfire works in a different way and as such its far more stable as its in hardware and not software......I think but basically Crossfire will accelerate any game to a certain level of degree.
2. A single card will manage it yes, but you'd notice the performance boost by having two, though saying that X1900 Masters will be about for at least the next 3 months so try it with one now and upgrade later....
3. Is PM enabled? No it aint! You can email me - [email protected] don't try adding me on MSN as I don't use it as I find it annoying.

My XTX is running that res on my belinea 10 25 35W

Think Im getting rid of my 7800GTX512 after a month as even though it is stupidly fast in everything the IQ is still a little lacking on a 24" screen.

ATI is just better than Nvidia in that respect @ the moment plus AA is almost free on the X1900 in some games (as in no massive FPS loss unlike Nvidia).

What size screen is your belinea 10 25 35W and what's the Optimum Resolution on it???

(I know the dell 20" lcd that has a 1680x1050 Optimum Resolution has no problem..)

Must admit, I've decided to jump ship from NVIDIA and got myself a Saffire X1900XTX plus a nice Plextor DVD-RW for less than the 7800GTX - very reasonably priced too at OCUK on a "This Week Only" deal.

I may return to NVIDIA when DX10 and Vista settles in properly. But this will be my first ATI card and should last me a good 6 - 12 months.

I'm looking forward to finding out why the ATI owners keep harping on about "IQ"

its a 20.1" and that is its native res

I think it's only 24" lcds with a Optimum Resolution of 1920x1200 that has this problem..

Am just hoping the 7900gtx has got better drivers on release then these crap ati ones..
