as the title says... buying a new PC. ive been trying to decide what to buy for the last couple of weeks with a lot of advise from u guys, i get paid on friday so heres my final (i hope) decision (budget of £1300)

CPU: AMD Opteron 170 (2.0Ghz)
GFX:Connect3D ATI Radeon 1900XT-X
RAM: Mushkin 2GB DDR XP4000 Extreme Performance
M/BOARD: DFI LanParty ULTRA-D
HDD: Western Digital Caviar SE16 320GB
PSU: Hiper Type R 580W
CASE: ThermalTake Saprano Case
DVDRW: NEC ND4551 16x16 DVD±RW/RAM
O/S: Windows XP Home - OEM

Total: £1,311.43

already have a LCD, K/Board N Mouse

as you may of noticed i havent speced a cooler, have had a lot of good advise over the last few weeks from the members here but still cant decide. id just like to point out this PC is in a attic so noise is not a problem

im wanting to try and get atleast 2.6ghz from the CPU and also overclock the RAM, the machine is intended for serious gaming so only 24/7 stable clocks are needed, so wont be pushing it too far

any improvements/advise on what i can add/change to the spec would be great, or if you think im totally off the mark and want to do a new spec feel free

Thanx In Advance

The only improvement that i would sujest if having a 74GB WD 10k rpm HD for programme files and a 37GB WD 10k rpm HD for windows and virtual memory.
Can't think of anything else.

only chose the Hiper cos of price, if u can recomend another cheap PSU please do, also im not really interested in the Raptors dont believe they would give me much of an advantage for the price. plus from what ive heard the new Sata II drive perform quite well

The way I see it, getting top end processors, graphics, memory etc is absolutely pointless if you're justing going to use a cheap power supply. The power supply is what feeds juice into your components, the blood through the veins. Forking out £100 for a Seasonic/Tagan is an absolute must with your spec. You get back in return, the money you put in. :)

i just RMA`D my Hiper Type R 580W modular and bought a Tagan 580W Modular PSU

there is just to meny people RMAing those PSU`s and this is my 2nd time RMAing there bloody things. first rma was due to low power, not giveing its spec power ect.
2nd rma was due to the fan on the back stoping and starting ect and just plain clicking ect....

these hiper PSU`s use Sleeve fans wich i didnt know untill about a week ago wich is a big fat NO NO.....

thats why i ordered a new psu TAGAN :)

guess your right, will take a look, what wattage u recomend

would i need to go as high as 600w or would 500w do the job

I have a little bit better spec than you and i just recieved my TAGEN 580W Modular PSU and wow its great :P

i recommend that PSU for your system will run it completely smooth.
