According the timer on the video, 15 seconds to an indicated 170mph.
Thats fairly brisk to say the least.

I dont think its MPH more like KPH.....there is no way you would do 170Mph on a road like that, and also the speed increase from 150 to 170 is just to fast...even for a bike

Erm.... Rubbish.

I've done an indicated 220Mph (190Mph real world) on a road going Hayabusa.

Bikes will pull 150 - 170 in the blink of an eye.

Suberbike this month have done the 1000cc group test. They finished with datalogged/gps timed runs, the R1 hits its top speed in around 19 seconds, same with the Gixxer 1000, So 15 seconds to an indicated 170 is about right.

I have just watched this acouple of times again, and yes maybe I was wrong, but then doing that speed on that type of road....have you seen the state of the tarmac he goes over when braking and is at around 100mph/kph ;) Crazy, but then again, maybe its just me that has slowed down a lot after a bad bike accident last year:)

So a quick summary of what some 1000cc bikes will do, R1, Fireblade, Gixxer 1000 and ZX10R
All times courtesy of a 2D data logger and GPS.

0-60 pops up in an average across all the bikes of 3.43 seconds
100mph in about 6 seconds average, and the gixxer gets to 100mph in 133 meters!
150mph in around 12.9 seconds, Gixxer does it in 500 meters.
1/4 mile times for all the bikes is roughly 10.7 seconds @ 140'ish
Gixxer tops out @ 170 the quickest in 20.36 seconds.
Fastest on the runway is the ZX10R, 178mph.

Top gear roll ons are interesting, since these arent the torquiest of engines, 40-120 taking 11 seconds.

So the Gixxer in the video hitting 170mph in 15 seocnds is about right, since the speedo will about 10mph fast or there abouts at 170mph.

Not if you are sitting on a grunty V-twin with tweaked gearing. ;)

See what ya mean though. Some of the latest I4's are pretty weak when it comes to that area.

Gixxer 'thou is a longer stroke design then the others, and has more then enough midrange, 40 - 120 in top gear 11 seconds isn't exactly slow.. mind you I've often though of chopping my Gixxer thou in for a decent V-Twin just for something different.

you dont realise how far from the truth you mate ;)

i have a 1998 ZX9R with carbs let alone fuel injection that will pull 0-140 in 10 seconds ;)

and as long as its a road it will still knock that sort of speed out ;)
