Hi all,

Ive been wanting to get a new H/U for my Mk3 Golf for a while now and I think Ive found the right one. I really dont want it to be flashy and have hands free equipment etc... just a nice CD Tuner that can play MP3 CD's etc...

The Pioneer DEH 3700MP

I like the look of it very much, and it has a black surround which will match the dash. The unit's front panel is removable, so the unit won't stick out from the black dash board when the front panel is taken off.

This product unfortunatly has just been discontinued and replaced with the new 4700MP, which apart from the facelift doesn't seem to do much more. The other models in the Pioneer range are very expensive (although lovely) or not really to my taste - the green background lights of this radio match the golf's interior lighting. I dont particularly like the new design either of the 4700MP.

Anyone know anything about this model? Is it any good?

Thanks in advance for any advise. :)

My girlfriend has a Pioneer H/U in her car (not the model your after). Not much to say about it really. Plays CDs perfectly well. Sound is good, never skips and the build quality is good also. Has all the usual features and has lasted a long time. Not much else to say really I'm afraid.

I have a 3600MP in my car and absolutely love it. It's a very basic model and I got it for £120 about 15 months ago from Car Audio Direct.

Plays MP3/WMA files as you'd expect and is very easy to use. 2 sets of pre-outs for front and rear and a nice looking front panel.

Certainly enough power to drive fairly decent speakers without distortion and the overall sound quality is rather good. Sounded miles better than my mates Sony FX-5200 something or other, even though he thought his was better because it was 'more expensive' *snigger*.

It's taken a beating since I've owned it. It's been played loud, the front panel has been dropped many times... and yet it's only skipped once (BIGGGGGGG pothole).

Apart from that, I've had absolutely no problems with it.

Thanks for the replies guys - your H/U looks pretty cool agw_01! The place I was going to order the unit from has now gone out of stock, but I will try ordering one tommorrow from elsewhere! :)

They're meant to be alright. If you want top sound quality and plain styling have a look at the Becker units

Thanks for the link - its not that im looking for plain styling, its just that I dont want anything flashy and full of LED's. The 3700's styling isnt exciting, but it looks quite subtle to me.

Ive ordered the 3700 today as well, thanks for the advise guys! :)
