Fist of all I’m not bashing the 360 as I’ve had one since launch day
And it’s the best console I’ve owned ever, and I’ve owned a few ;)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We are not all techies on here so for the benefit of the casual gamer
Please try and address the following issues that we are familiar with.

• Why does tearing happen in Xbox 360 games?
• Will this issue be addressed in the future?
• Will we see the same in Playstation 3 titles?
• Does it ruin the gaming experience for you?

Personally for me it doesn’t so much ruin the game but it kind of strips the
The polish away on a game and I feel that’s a great shame.
I can’t recall previous console games (ps2/xbox) suffering this kind of graphical defect.

As a none techie person I’m guessing this tearing has something to do with-
VGA/component 60hertz refresh rates?
Does this tearing happen when the games run via RGB scart for example?
If we discuss the fundamental issues of tearing the next time someone has kittens
Over tearing in a game we can refer them to this thread lol.

Please contribute to this issue as it crops up in almost every console games/game thread.

I'm still yet to see this 'tearing' in 360 games (apart from PDZ which was notorious for it)

Which games does it specifically happen in?

Which games have you experienced it?

You'll get tearing on games for the same reason you get it on PC games, it's because the framerates are not in sync with the refreshrates, so vsync is pretty much turned off. Perfect Dark Zero is one of these games, I think it's used to give you a lot more frames when possible, but will cause tearing in some instances as it's going to be trying to draw too many frames for each refresh of the screen.

This 'issue' will likely not be adressed specifically, it'll just be down to the game developer to cap their framerates at 30/60, so you get less/eliminate the tearing.

We will likely see it on PS3 titles, but it will totally depend upon the game and how the Sony quality control system works. If Sony ask every developer to lock their framerates at 60 for example, then I doubt you'll see tearing at all on games on the PS3, but we'll just have to wait and see, as I think we will see tearing in some games.

I've not seen it to the full extent on the 360, but tearing really bothers me on PC gaming, and I do everything I can to eliminate or drastically reduce it.

The Blazing Angels demo had terrible tearing for me but I have no idea if it was the same in the final product. That's the only one I've played that's had really bad tearing.

I have seen it on a few games (motoGP06 demo being the worst) but admitedly have never noticed it on Fight Night, GRAW or Table Tennis (The games that I have played a lot).

It is of course a missmatch between refresh rates and framerate, but since the current lineup hasn't been affected badly (bar MotoGP) i can't say I'm too bothered. If it becomes a serious problem, I'm sure new standards would be set by Microsoft to try and overcome it.

The only thing I've noticed is sometimes in PGR3, the scolling text at the bottom of the screen seems odd - interlaced in fact with half of the lines missing. Is this an example of tearing or some other bug?

Ah yes, that reminds me that i also experienced tearing in that demo. I wonder how polished the demo was though, with many of the demos shown on Live being so drastically different from the final product?

The bouncing ping pong ball intro in Table Tennis produces quite a lot of tearing for me. Apart from that, and a bit in PGR3, I haven't really noticed it.

I assume there's no difference between 720p and 1080i in terms of tearing?

It happens on the Blazin Angels full product as well, and it's very bad. I've hardly played the game, it just anoyes me tearing all the time.

The full version of Blazing Angels is the worst culprit for me. The funny thing is it very much depends on which level you are playing in that game as to how bad the tearing is, ive never really figured out why.

Likely down to the TV you're playing it on... most "digital" TVs have a ton of black magic signal processing that occurs before the picture is displayed to the screen.

No, it's not that.
