Samsung 940BF Bad Ghosting

I've just bought two new Samsung 940BFs the new 2ms 19inch LCDs, which I rec'd today.

Much to my disapointment I immediately noticed bad ghosting on most moving items. This is not my first samsung screens I've also got the 940BE rotatating screen, which is the same display as the 940b. and I had a 940b on loan whilst waiting for a replacement. I've not had any probs with either screen. Crystal clear and sharp zero ghosting, which is why I was scratching my head... why are both my new 940BF's ghosting like nobody's business?

Anyway thinking that perhaps I had a bad batch after trying all sorts of things such as different pc's pairing up my BF and BE as dual screens only to watch my mouse with ghost go from one screen to the other and the ghosting go.... I've just found an option in the menu that my 940be DOES not have that my new 940BF's do have and that is RTA... So yup you guessed it, when I turn that off the ghosting goes away....

Acording to the manual this is the option that gives you the 2ms.. I guess when you switch it off, it reverts back to the other 940B models at 8ms...

So perhaps this 2ms isn't such a good thing after all?

Has anyone else noticed, admitally i am a hawkeye when it comes down to this kind of stuff.

The problem with RTA is that if you take the panel out of standby, it's resets the RTA back to on! as that is it's default 'feature' So it's a pain having to go back into the menu and switch it back off. So you always HAVE to leave the screen on standby...

I am now very happy with the quality of my 940BF's even though the RTA 'feature' is no longer being used. I am just happy that I don't need to blow shipping and restocking fees on two screens that upto 1hr ago i was so so so unhappy with..

This is the same on both my pc's one being powered by Nvidia and the other ATI..
 
interesting observations there. Looks like you are witnessing first hand a bad case of "overdrive trailing" or ghosting caused by the poorly controlled RTC (or in this case RTA = Response Time Acceleration). Samsung have had a tough time applying this to their panels and a lot of their range suffer from white halo-ing and excessive noise in movie playback as a result. I didn't realise you could turn off the RTA through the OSD which is interesting, at least you have found a way to revert it back to a standard, non overdriven panel, which is for all intents and purposes, the same as that in the 940B (8ms Samsung TN Film panel with no overdrive). One thing maybe worth trying, have you tried changing between 75Hz and 60Hz refresh rate? I would not normally suggest this since TFT's are supposed to run at 60Hz, but if you run it at 75Hz it may well adversely effect the overdrive control (see here for more) which in your case, is beneficial. Might be a way of reducing the overdrive trailing without needing to turn off the RTA all the time.
 
Tried both 75hz as well as 60hz both doing the same. Unfortunately everytime I turn on my computer it reverts back to the RTA being on so these will need to go back, or Samsung may hopefully exchange them for the 8ms 940Be models. It still does amaze me though how a product with a defect as clear as this could have been released into the marketplace? beats the heck out of me.
