Your opinion on Absinth?

i've never tried the stuff before. im goin to a party tonight and my mates have got some and are gonna give me some, i've heard some pretty wierd stories like hallucinations and things like that. what are your experiences with it? and should i be worried?

*ill admit im a bit of a lightweight with drinks*
 
All that hallucination stuff is balls. I personally dont like the taste of it. Make sure they prepare it properly.
 
Never tried it, but if you don't want to try it then don't ... don't crumble under peer pressure :)

Although I think the absinth you tend to get in the UK is lightweight stuff compared to the realy drink. iirc the real stuff contains a hallucigenic, the UK stuff is just a very strong drink.
 
if your a lightweight then 2 shot will have you on your back.

Start with one shot before you drink anything else and then wait 30 mins to see how you feel. My missus only needs one and it really effects her, i can drink 4 before i notice it.

I love the stuff. Got to try it with sugar etc yet :D

I won't touch the stuff again. I still have a scar on my finger from burning sugar to go in it. Mind you it didn't hurt too much at the time I was hammered! Though at the end of the night I seem to remember feeling very cold and shivering due to shock from the very deep burn :eek:
 
Had 3 of the normal stuff the sell in the UK. 70% or something like that. Great to get you drunk tbh but if they have black absinth from abroad you may want to be very cautious.
 
It's really not as strong as people make out. Well, the drink itself isn't a knockout, it's more the fumes/vapours.

I (or rather my friends and I) used to prepare it by having a double shot in a glass, with roughly the same in water, then take a spoonfull of sugar, soak it in Absynth and light it. then when it starts to melt blow it out, quickly mix the spoon contents into the glass and drink quickly (read 'down the shot'). That's when the vapours get you. But it's fun.
I don't drink anymore, but i must say absynth was one of my favourite tipples (of course it's not wormood infused 'true' absynth in the UK but it tastes pretty much as good as the real thing, just doesnt slay you quite the same).
 
2 years ago a pub had a closing party for all the regulars, whilst already fairly blotted my mate came up to me with a drink, he stood there giggling saying "drink it, go on its nice" obviously i wasnt in much of a questioning mood being drunk already....what he passed me was a shot of black absinthe which went down nicely in one go, followed by another, on top of that i was still drinking pints (im a bit of a lightweight as well)

cant say i remember much of the evening after that, though i do remember telling the same girl to go away about 20times that evening (not that harshly obviously) oh and i remember going to the outdoor pool at about 4am and getting chucked out by the gaurds, not sure why i remember that though (this is very odd, its all coming back to me as i type this haha)

whatever you do dont buy canabis flavoured absinth in holland go out have a skinfull go back to the hotel room pour a shot light it and down it, my mate in his infinate wisdom tried this and it was instantly brought back up along with the rest of his stomach contents
 
Absynthe is all right. It's nothing special but if prepared properly it's quite a fun drink to have. The way I've always had it prepared and been told to have it is pour into a sugar rimmed glass, get a sugar cube let it soak the absynthe up, light it and let it to start caramalising a little, the dump it into the glass, stirr vigorously, extinguish the flames and down as quickly as possible. It's not the most pleasant drink, then neither is tequilla - but it's the routine that's fun.
 
Ive been to prague twice now and I always bring a big bottle back with me because its a fraction of the prce of the uk inferior stuff.
It does taste like mouth wash but its a good party bottle to have in the cupboard bring it out and watch peoples faces as it burns all the way down...
