my mother just got a call on the land line saying something like "we have your radio and are ready to send it, please call us on (insert what ever number it was) to confirm your address for postage" or words to that effect, my mother tried to say that she didnt understand what was going on but it just carried on untill the end of its conversation

she said it didnt sound like a recording but it didnt respond to her when she said she didnt understand. she presumed she had interupted the BT messaging service which would account for the lack of a response if the person couldnt hear her but i told her that its impossible to do, you either leave a message or your talking live to the person you called and there is no in between. but now she is worried as no one here has ordered a radio and it didnt leave any details of who it was other than the phone number

Hahah we had that today.
It's a recorded message and asks you to ring a premium rate line :)

I think it was 'steve' that had my radio. I really would like it back :(

Tell them that you'll pay them £400 in postage if they can send it to Nigeria, and elaborately scam them.

Thanks all, i figured someone here would know :) i will go tell her now, she will be pleased.

but seriously... a radio ??? who the hell would mail order a radio ??? youd say something a little more current like "hd TV" or "ipod" ... :D

The radio is yours! Do not lose out phone right now!

Edit: It's at least a digital radio I hope.

My mum received a similar call on wednesday saying an item would be delivered on thursday and she's got to be in to receive it.
She ends up ringing me and my sister for ordering things on that internet thing.
She stayed in and the item didn't come and still hasn't come.

had that call about half an hour ago, some scam saying it's so and so from DHL returning your radio, call him back on 0701 xxx xxx....

obvious scam

An ipod or HDTV is something that will only be desirable to younger people or the technologically inclined. A radio is a radio to all generations from teenagers to OAPs.
By using radio, they are hedging their bets in appealing to a far wider target audience.

I got four calls today from the 'Police Control Room' in Bristol saying police officers had come across my car and it had been broken in to.

Slight problem. I don't drive, never have, and never will, so owning a car would be somewhat pointless. Also, the last time I went to Bristol was by train (although I got a lift back - thanks MB).

Yes, it was legit - just some crossed wires somewhere.

I had the radio phone call a few weeks ago,

Even if I'd wanted to write down the number it would have been impossible to find a pen and pad, I think they only said the number 1 time then it hung up.

Basicly useless if you answer rather then letting voice mail get it.

Sorry, my bad...

It's crazy what happens when you write stuff on post-it notes and stick them on DVRs that the Police take away :p
