Sometimes when I go to poweron my PC, it won't start up, and the psu is making a very high pitch buzz. It comes and goes. When it goes, I can turn on the PC, when the buzz returns I can't turn the computer on.

Any ideas? Is my psu dead?

Are the fans spinning when its buzzing?

I've got an old one i'm using as a bench psu thats started doing this, i think its the fan bearings.

No, no fans, it's not that sort of noise. Very high pitched, and it also makes my plasma buzz also.

Does it change as you load up the cpu?

I know of a system that does this, and its actually the board thats causing it but its very difficult to tell. Loading up the cpu gets rid of it.

If the PSU is buzzing then the PC won't power on. Nothing. Zip. After I cycle the power on the PSU a few times, it will stop buzzing and will then power on the PC.

Hope this makes sense.

Perhaps just try a new power cable first, even if just to eliminate that from your enquiries. It's a whole lot easier to change a power cable than it is a whole PSU! ;)
