my 6800GT has perfectly normal temps (40-60, idle/full load) yet recently its started i think overheating (i get streaks of colours down the screen and have to restart the pc). what new card could i get, AGP for under 250 squid, obviously the cheaper the better but id like to get one that is perhaps slightly better.

A Gainward 7800GS(78/7900gt core) is about the only thing that will improve significantly on a 6800gt however they might well still cost more than your budget. Why don't you try either re-seating your cooler or fitting a Zalman as that may help. Althernatively it depends what CPU you have but it may even be cheaper buying a new motherboard and PCI-E graphics card.

i just tested my gfx card, twice it overheated on the hl2 video stress test, then i tried it again and it was fine running that a few times and 3dmark05 a few times, no overheats whatsoever :/

btw, i have a 939 amd 3000

Sounds like you're looking for an excuse to get a new card. :p

If it's knackered then what about the warranty?

For £250 on an AMD s939 the best money spent is to get a new mobo & a great graphics card as below ... will be faster than any AGP card you can get even the 7800GS / 7900GT cards.

Get this graphics card (best bang per buck at present & absolutely slaughters the 6800GT performance wise)...
Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-044-CO) Price: £136.95 (£160.92 Including VAT at 17.5%) **THIS WEEEK ONLY**

and

DFI LanParty UT NF4 Ultra-D (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-014-DF) Price: £74.95 (£88.07 Including VAT at 17.5%)

or if you want something cheaper maybe...

Abit KN8 Ultra nForce4 Ultra (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-087-AB) Price: £51.95 (£61.04 Including VAT at 17.5%)

Even with the DFI mobo which is great for overclocking your within your budget. :)

Oh yeah theres the x1800 XT 256mb which whoops the 7800 GT for only £160 as said, then just get a decent PCI-E board to go with it, forgot about that. ;)

overheating? why not just get a new cooler or is that a strangely forbidden option or something?

i was just doing some testing, and on rivatuner under "voltage regulator", it was fluctuating wildly between 8A and 27A, i think it might be my PSU thats the problem, any idea?

like so:

in that picture, it is max 30A and the lowest is 8A, which i dont think is normal, perhaps its the PSU? if i was to get pci-e would i also need to get a new psu?

definatly sound like a power problem to me
and thd graph doesnt look to healthy to me, but when i get home 2 nite , ill runn mine and see if its any different to yours :)
