Just got back to my PC after about an hour. It's on full load.

I then notice water on the window of my case, so i go to wipe it off... But it's on the inside :confused:

It's a long splatter of water that covers the whole length of the case, from the bottom to the top. It's directly inline with the fan of my Arctic Freezer fan.

It looks exactly like water... Any idea's :confused:

edit: I just found its on the fan guard of the freezer... and feels oily..

I checked that, because i remember an old thread about this quite a while ago. That was one of the things i remember being sugested. I cant see any liquid around the actual heatpipes, and the liquid i have found is directly inline with the fan.

If anyone can confirm it has actually, failed, i'll RMA it :(
 
If the heatpipes failed when the PC was turned on, any liquid would be warm, and therefore most likely in gaseous form (its a heatpipe, the liquids are designed to evaporate). They could then get 'caught' in the airflow from the fan, and be blown towards the case. Case being cool the gas would then condense back into its liquid form. Because they were a gas when they escaped the heatpipe I would expect there to be little or no sign of liquid around the heatpipes. Especially if the entire contents escaped and nothing was left inside.

Just a possible theory.
 
But wouldn't the airflow of the fan blow it out towards the back of the case? The liquid marks are directly inline with the fan, but on the case window
 
An open bladed fan like that (one with no case to form a wind tunnel) tends to generate a lot of turbulence, there certainly will be a secondary airflow radiating sideways away from the blades, in addition to the main push through the heatsink.

Depending on your case layout, I could imagine a few possible ways that the heatpipe's filling could have been caught in that sidedraft instead of the main flow.

The amount of lubricant in a typical sleeve bearing is very small indeed. Certainly not enough to notice splattered inside a computer case.
 
Well, at the end of the day, regardless of whether its the heatpipe's liquid filling, or the fans bearing lube, the heatsink is in need of RMA :) As you've found traces on the fan, it does sound like one or other has failed.

Yeh, i can remember someone posting about this.. but thought it was a bit rare. I dont think i'll get anotherone though. Scythe or big tyhpoon me thinks.

Also regarding the RMA process, can you get a full refund, or is it just a replacement?

Hmm, it may be the bearings. Every few minutes i'm hearing ever so high pitched squeeks that wern't there before. It might be the HDD but thats a brand new spinpoint so i doubt it :confused:

edit: Nope, not the cooler making the squeeks. I just stopped the fan with my finger and the noise was still there. However the fan blades are also covered in the liquid.

Rma definately now :o

Well.. when i noticed it, the temps were quite high, 52c and pushing. But at the time my room was warmer than normal because i had to close my windows... some factory or something caught fire.. didn't smell the nicest :p
