Are you going to replace the standard Conroe HSF?

I was wondering if people are going to use the supplied heatsink/fan with their shiny new Conroes, when they arrive? In particular I'm looking at the 2.4Ghz E6600 model with standard air cooling, but wondered if I'd be better ordering a third party HSF at the same time and using this instead of the supplied HSF? Any thoughts?

The supplied sink is ok, but your better off with a 3rd party sink.

Ninja, freezer 7 pro, thermaltake big typhoon, mine, tuniq tower & 9500 are all good. :)

Was gonna go with a Scythe Ninja, as the 120mm fan means it will run quiet as possible while keeping the thing nice and cool - both are essential for me, I use my machine for media just as much as for anything else, maybe more-so.

Anyone else think there's a better solution (X6800)? Looks like the Arctic Freezer Pro is a popular solution.

needs the lga bracket, ocuk dont sell it, but it isnt a good cooler compaired to the latest ones, the ultras are better.

Ah balls. That means I will have a spare XP-120 when I get conroe then. :(

I want the best air cooling :p

I found the stock cooler on my Prescott really difficult to fit, will the conroe ones be better than previous ones?
From what I've seen, the stock conroe HSF is identical to the prescott (circular aluminium with curved fins and a copper core).

I always found the stock Intel coolers extremely easy to fit (compared to AMD). Just place it over the core, line up the plastic hooks with the base, and then press down the 2 grey levers. Unless they've changed it?

I was always scared about pressing the cooler down, it takes a bit of force.
Yeah, it's much easier to fit the cpu to the mobo before putting the mobo in the case, as you can support the back properly. If the mobo is already fitted, it bends a lot when you press down on the cooler.

Here here to that here here!

I've fitted loads of those things and not once have I been fully confident about pushing in those damn pegs, and there's always one which seems to require even greater force than the rest, they are very quick to fit, but I'm always terrified I'll hear a SNAP!!

I generally use them for testing new CPUs, just to check everything is working, before handing over to either the TT Big Typhoon or Zalman 9500 for long term service.

Most of these recommended coolers appear to blow across the motherboard rather than suck/blow towards the board. I'm sure I've read somewhere on here that cooling of the components around the CPU slot is a good thing and that the coolers blowing across the board don't really achieve this?

pwm's like it cool, freezer pro range blows on the mobo parts thanks to angled fins.
However i havnt come across hot pwm's affecting my oc.
Its heatpipe baised ones with the rad on the pwm's that are a problem.

I'm impressed with that Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 775), never bought one with heatpipes before as the supplied retail AMD HSF's have always been quiet and effective. I think I'll go for this, good price too. Hope it fits the Gigabyte DS3 motherboard okay!
