Hope to test it out at Croft this weekend when the BSB come to town :D

Someone needs a battery grip ;)

What is it with everyone buying new lenses at the moment!

Holy cow that's huge

Hope you have fun with it :)

And here was I thinking how dinky it looked! If you try the same with a 100-400 the body is off the ground.

I haven't used any of the Canon 70-200s but have had times when I've though one could be quite nice. Enjoy!

Great lens, love using mine on Motorbikes as you are generally that bit closer to the track (at most circuits) so you can get shots longer lens would normally get at places like Silverstone etc :)

With a minimum focussing distance of 1.2m you arent going to get close to true macro with it without using extension tubes really. I have never tried as 1) I dont have any tubes and 2) I have a 'real' macro lens.

If you do try it, be sure to post up your results :)

Tell you what DRZ if i have time tonight ill try hows that :)

70-200 with 3 stack tubes the results may be funny!

Andy

If you do, could you estimate the minimum focussing distance for each tube please?

Some shots at 70mm 135mm and 200mm with the tubes would also be great! ;)

sorry O/T but what would you reccomend for macro work?

The 70-200 F4 is probably as large as you can go without the battery grip.
A nice combination :)

Any of the following lenses are superb Macro tools :)

Canon 100mm F2.8 Macro - £329
Sigma 105mm F2.8 Macro - £280
Sigma 150mm F2.8 Macro - £430

Image quality between them is pretty much identical. The Canon lens is a lot better in terms of handling and ease of use over the Sigma 100.
The 150mm is also a great lens.

One thing to remember is that Macro lenses have slow Auto Focus compared to non macro lenses. This is due to the massive focus range that the lens has to rotate.

Is that a jessops filter on the front?

OMG well spotted

You cant keep that on there dude. I was so happy to get my lens for a good price, to realise the cost of a decent fileter.... :(

good enough for what i need, as long as it protects the glass its fine for me

I've used a cheap Hoya before and it's caused horrid flare across a whole set of pictures - I learned this the hard way. I'd aim to replace it..the whole idea about buying an L lens is to have that contrast preserved.

I saw a group review of polarizer filters in a Photography magazine. They concluded that the Jessops branded filter was actually better than the more expensive brands.
