So now that they're readily available, what is the general consensus on them?

The black 2gb version is on 'This Week Only' for £70 which seems like a very good price.

Opinions?

Not really sure as I've never heard them but I don't like the idea of having a cube in my pocket or round my neck. Personally I'd rather spend £30 extra and get a Vivitar DMD-P20. Then again if you want something tiny then that won't be for you although a 3.5" screen and 20gb for £100 sells it for me.

I can't find it being sold for anywhere near that price.

I'm really looking for a solid state player with decent battery life, 2-4gb memory and reasonably cheap. At the moment I have a 20gb 3rd gen ipod which can carry less than a quarter of my music and has a 10 minute battery life, so I figure if no player can hold all my music anyway (which is, by and large, the main selling point of hdd-based players) I may as well go in the other direction and get something that's small, convenient and lets me listen to more than 1 song before needing a recharge.

EDIT* Doing a forum search brings up threads with people claiming 150hr battery life. Surely that's a mistake? All reviews I've looked at mention 8-10 hours.

i ordered mine in silver on friday. should arrive monday, will let you know how i get on. i just wanted something small and cool to store enough music to keep me going for a week.

for the discounted price - I don't think you can really go wrong.

technology is moving and converging so fast these days, most gadgets only have a lifetime of a year or so for me (before handing on to my wife or dad).

Well - it arrvied this morning. It is ridiculously small, thinking i'll probably loose it before i break it.

Buttons are tiny - but are easy to use (i have average size hands).

Sound quality is great - though immediately improved by putting in some decent headphones. Tried it with the ones supplied and overall quality was average. Plugged in my Shure headphones and WOW what a difference.

USB transfers aren't as fast as you'd expect. A little disappointed even connecting directly to a USB 2 port. Though still fast enough.

It's got a radio and a mic which might come in handy.

Screen is bright and clear, though as small as it can be.

My main concern is that it only charges via USB. So if you're planning on travelling or going on holiday - you'll need a laptop or PC at the other end when it runs out of juice.

Also the necklace that you'd (might) use to wear it is integrated with the supplied headphones and can be detached. So if you change headphones, you'll have no way of attaching it to your person, other than in a pocket.

I'm sure i'll find something suitable to thread through the loop, so that i can wear it whilst running.

Hope it helps. Also silver is quite nice - kinda brushed alluminium effect (not shiny)

Looks like a great buy especially for the 2GB version. Plus I've never been a fan of bloaty itunes type software. Got bigger than average hands here so I'll see how well it works for me.

/places order

After 24 hours. Data transfers are painfully slow more like USB 1 - let me know if anyone else is experiencing the same problem. (Yes it is plugged into a USB 2 socket)

Menu system/buttons are quite fiddly - mainly down to it's miniature size.

Still overall happy with the purchase and price. Sounds quality is brill.

HI there

Yes these little things really do impress me! Plus you don't need a necklace to attach it too the thing is so light just leave it dangling from the headphones. :)

Got mine today :) Yep it really is tiny but no problem for my chunky hands. Transfers are a little slow, the manual says it does 25mbps. From a quick copying of files it feels about 100mb per min. Theres no ID3 tag support and there's some issues with very long file names and track order. It supports Chinese/Japanese character sets which surprised me. Sound is nice and like yimpster said, adding some Shure headphones makes it even better. Radio is pants though.. reception varies a lot.

All in all I'm happy with my purchase :)
