I was just curious as too how many people thought they ate a well balanced diet?

In this day and age of takeaways and McD's, who still takes the time to make sandwidges, or cook a decent meal... do you actually eat the 5 fruit a day that is recommened (and regular things such as veggies and so on).

I personally feel I eat pretty well, and actually take EPA (fish oil and garlic) supplements as my diet lacks fish, I try to eat at least 3 pieces of fruit a day (bannas, apples, grapes, plumbs, pairs, that kinda thing).

Do you feel your diet has improved as you have aged (which mine has) or do you feel its become worse?

*edit*

Finally, do you feel you dont have much fat? especially saturated and Hyrdonated Veggie oil, and also what amount of salt would you say you have?

Id say my diet is pretty balanced, i eat 5 pieces of fruit or more a day, usually have 2 tins of tuna a day, i eat nuts for the good fats and usually pasta or rice for dinner with the odd bowl of cereal at night. Also have a minimum of 2 pieces of bread a day and drink plenty of water.

I have no idea what my salt intake is, i don't eat food that has obvious high amounts of salt so it should be pretty low.

My diet has definetly improved no end after the last few years, i lost around 6 stone a year and a half ago, before that i used to just eat anything i wanted, like 5 packets of crisps a day ;)

last time i had a take-away (including curry and chineese) was on saturday which was a KFC at thorpe park - so no chance of having anything mega healthy.

before that i cannot remember the last time i had a take-away meal.

i make sandwiches and rolls most days to eat for lunch - i dont eat many varieties of veg but i do tend to eat a lot of what i do like.

This is linked to the two 'fat threads' aint it!? :p

I think my diet is better than most. I take multi vitamins and whey protean (sp?!) as i work out. I try to eat as much fruit and veg as i can and i stay away from fizzy drinks ect. I drink a decent ammount of water. More than the average joe blog i think.

Its so difficult to eat heathly all the time though!

I very rarely have take-out / fast food more than once a week but I still don't think my diet is very good. I don't eat much chocolate or snack on crisps, but I could eat more fruit and veg. It is improving though and it definately better than it was 18 months ago. :)

I would say my diet is normally good. I rarely have take away food all my meals are home cooked and I usually get 5 fruit and veg a day :)

my diet is generally good, providing around the right amound of carbs and proteins and bcaa's etc.

atm its quite poor, but thats down to moving etc, its hard to diet properly and train and move a house!

Tbh I think I have a really healthy diet, my breakfeast and lunch is usually just vegtables and fruit, then for main meal every week I always have at least one portion of salmon. Dont eat bread that often as it can be funny with me sometimes.

Very healthy, i eat six high protein meals a day. Haven't eaten chocolate or sweet stuff for yrs. Gone from a weedy 12st up to a muscular 14st in less than 2yrs of hard weight training. Use no supplements at all. Family and friends think i'm on steroids lol.

I eat sandwhiches and the likes for lunch usually, and make dinner a lot of the time at home. In fact i've got a nice lamb joint to cook tonight :D

Hydroblah blah and saturated oil I try and not take in, usually when I have hobnobs is when I get that stuff.

what kind of fast foods do you have? and on that statement do you regularly have 1 per week?

Depends on what shifts I'm working, if I'm working weekends, whether my parents are in the country etc but I probably average about 3 a month so that would be most weeks if I'm honest.

Take away / fast food is usually fish and chips (half portion of each) or chinese (usually half a chicken chow mein), but can be indians or pizza (although only very occasionally)

Since I've moved in with my boyfriend we cook a lot more instead of having the usual pizza or Mcds when we only saw each other at weekends.
I eat fruit every day and I've been trying to drink at list a litre of water a day and barely eat chocolate or anything too fattening, I also work in a sandwich shop where I can make up sandwiches and baked potatos to eat and we've tried cutting down the amount of Chinese or fast food we have so I'd say my diet has improved over the last few months. :)

My diet is awful, i eat take out nearly everyday and my weight has gone up quite abit the past year or 2. I havent got a clue how to eat healthy or when to find out how to

Having just finished my Burger King lunch - very healthy of course :p I had a BLT sandwich for breakfast today but I usually have a Pot Noodle. Evening meal is always home made by my beautiful fiancee thats always veg + mash/rice + $meat.

I survive on 4 - 6 pints of water a day plus fizzy drinks (specifically the ones high in caffeinne and tourine). Me and a work mate polished off a few bags of Haribo before 11am the other day, was quite funny as he was complaining that his eye sight was screwed up afterwards :p

Personally eating heathy and being healthy are very nice things but you gotta have the nice stuff too. There is no point being Capt Healthy Pants all your life as you will not be eating the stuff you enjoy nor will you live longer as a result.

Ususally its the athletes that die first anyway so thats always gonna be a laugh :D

I find this hard to believe really, you must know that eating fruit, veg and lean meat and fish is better than greasy, stodgy, sugary foods?

I am trying to improve my diet all the time. I live alone and I am trying to devise a heathy diest that is intresting and cost effective.

Last night I had a salad from M&S which had new potatoes, lettice, tomarto, cucumber, egg, spring onion etc in it and opened a tin of sardines in tomarto sauce to go with it. Took about a minute to plate up and cost less than £2.50. So no excuse for fast food which would have taken longer to get, cost more, and done me harm.

We have started eating very healthily instead of just kind of healthily these past few weeks.
We have porridge and a banana for breakfast, more fruit as snacks. A healthy brown bread chicken/tuna salad sandwich at lunch with yoghurt and another banana. Dinner is always homemade with loads of veg in it. We use brown rice and pasta instead of white.
Take multivitamins and omega 3/6/9 oil every day and drink loads of fresh fruit juice.

We used to eat loads of snacks at night time but have cut that out completely. If we're hungry we have cereal or fruit :)

I cook a meal from scratch each evening and have a sandwich (wholegrain bread) at about 2pm.

Breakfast is a bowl of cereal, no sugar.

My gf and I have a takeaway once a month.

I'm about 5 stone overweight for my height going by those 'height/weight index' things but I'm healthy, happy, rarely ill and don't have any problems in life.

And what was in that tin of sardines? :/
