Please tell me you did not send £4000 in cash through the post?

Royal Mail will not cover you if they know it's cash, but of course you know that right?

nope hoeslty i asked the guy in the post office how to send the money through the post he stated through special delivery so i opted for the method
now feel stupid if i been fleeced out of £4k
but how much of the money if any of it it covered my the post office ?

If you purchased sufficient insurance and it has been lost then you should be able to get the full amount. However just because it has not been delivered on time it does not mean it has been lost.

If it just turns up late, you get the cost of the postage back with Special Delivery. There is no consequencial insurace, meaning that any out of pocket losses (such as this interest you mention) due to the delivery being late are of course not covered.

If it goes missing, normal Special Delivery insures up to 500 quid, or you can pay an additional fee for further insurance for 1000 or 2500 pounds at time of posting.

So....you did send that amount in cash..?

If you did not insure it, Royal Mail won't give you anything near 4K. As how can you prove it was 4K and not £400?

As said cash can be sent by special delivery, but unless you paid for extra insurance you will be screwed. sorry to say. surely cash over the counter would have been the safer option. If it does get there you can still claim off royal mail as they guarantee the deliver of post by 1pm next day via special delivery.

well i paid just over £17.80
to send it was assured it was all covered
got extra stamps on the back of this royalmail special delivery recipet
they guy assured me it would have been fine so now hoping i am covered
so if the money is still on its way and not been reached today
can i claim the 2.5% intrest from the post office for them not meeting the guarnteed delivery time ?

No. There is no consequenal loss insurance for late delivery.... can't claim for that.

There is no consequential insurance as standard, but you can purchase it at additional cost for insurance of up to £10k.

Well all i can say is you have more faith in the Post Office than most

£4k

It will be very difficult to prove for insurance purposes :s

I assume you had no other choice like a cheque?

From how I understand it from the RM website, you are only covered upto £2500 maximum as the consequential loss scheme is only payable as compensation for the results of loosing the item and not the item's value itself.

Burnsy

edit: I really am gobsmacked that you'd actually send that amount of cash through the post. In fact i'd never send cash through the post, ever.

At my work we send and receive a lot of post, RD, SD and 1st. Things don't arrive more often than you'd think.

Surely a bank transfer or something would've been better? Well, no point saying these things now I guess, doesn't help much :(

This has to be a joke.

I'm assuming you aren't that young.....having £4000 in cash that easily.

So what were you thinking exactly ? I would say 99% of the people I know wouldn't send £400 through the post, let alone 10 times that (in fact most wouldn't ever send cash). There is a multitude of other ways you could have moved that amount of cash (including taxi / car / cheque / bank transfer / etc etc )

Just tell us why the hell you posted it ?

they would accept bank transfer which i thought was odd or personal cheque
was my final payment of my house which was paid on a perosnal loan
but bank with lloyds tsb
and mortgage also was with them but was told cash only throught the post
so now feeling rather sick if the money has gone missing

paying the 2.5% on 4k is not the issue its if i have lost the money

i do have prove has sealed the envelope in front of the guy 4 buddles of 1 k in £20 and i asked the counter guy to double check the amount
do the post office have to keep there cctv if so how long for
