Gotta be Conroe definately! You'll get a quality system for 2K!!

*Edit* Also please don't get a x1950xt. May as well get something like 7900GTO if you're gonna be upgrading when DX10 is out.
Think they are only 199 quid with VAT.

You will indeed get a quality system, i would base it around a nice DS4/6600 and 1900xt. Will be mint!! ooo and a nice 22" moniter!

yeh..was going 2 w8t like 6/9 months before i upgraded...got the money now and my laptop is killing me arggggg. So can you guys spec me a system around 2k..new monitor..ect...Also maybe a cross fire board so i have the ability 2 use my 1950xt as a 2nd card in the future?

I thought you wanted to upgrade Graphics Card when DX10 is released? Surley you wouldn't be able to use a DX9 and DX10 card in Crossfire mode?
I'd go for a cheap-ish card now that can handle latest games (i.e. 7900 or x1900) then get DX10 card when released.
2K, Jeeeez. You lucky dog! I'm proper skint ATM after paying for my wedding and honeymoon. Gonna be a while before I can upgrade full system :p

little over budget but i got you, 2 x 22inch widescreen tft's an x-fi , a great set of speakers, the best overclockable conroe with the best board and ram for that conroe, an x1900xt with silent cooler, a raptor for your OS and a seagate for your storage, the best air cooling case, and a very powerful and efficient highly built PSU with fan control and smart fan feature, right so you can lock this thread nobody is gonna be able to top that.

as for CPU cooler its personal preferance, i just find the support better with the big typhoon, and for air cooling only 1 or 2 coolers beat it but only by a degree or two so not much in it.

A shade cocksure aren't you? I actually wouldn't have bothered as that is a pretty good specification but for what looks like a bit of an attitude I decided to make the effort. Taking a slightly different tack this might also be suitable, no additional soundcard or speakers since no mention is made of needing them. Arguably the best 24" monitor on the market, one of the quietest and most stable PSUs, the chip has 4mb cache and is matched with a motherboard it clocks superbly with. There is admittedly only one hard drive but I included a keyboard/mouse combo and Crossfired X1900XTs for the monitor instead.

nah not an attitude i just exume confidence, right if he dont need soundcard and speakers, he could easily go crossfire with a change to the mobo, plus i think 2 x 22 inchers would be nicer than even a 24 inch dell, although i do agree it is a much better screen, i dont like the idea of paying for such a high res on 24incher, when the res of the 22inchers is more than aceptable, My pc cost £3000 altogether back in december and i have a 32inch hd lcd tv, and the res even though poor compared to even a 17inch vx724, is perfectly acceptable and i would not change it to a 24inch dell even though the dell is cheaper, so if the original poster doesnt like the idea of dual screens i would highly reccomend a 32inch hdtv, plus then you wouldnt need crossfire, would be easier to upgrade in future when dx10 hits the shelves Plus the extra 2 megs of cache only makes like 200mhz worth of difference and the 6300 can overclock further so both chips would be equal if the e6300 clocked exactly 200 mhz higher (this is a rough estimate). plus the speed from the raptors helps a lot, i know because i have 2 of them plus 2 spinpoints for storage

2mb is more like 400mhz difference but I take the point, I'm pretty sure this was already covered in a thread you started querying why anyone would go for anything other than a 6300. The Seagate 7200.10 drives aren't much slower than the Raptors plus have more storage capacity but it is of course up to Adam Senior which way he wants to go.

I do also appreciate that 2x22" screens might be better in some circumstances but you also then have to consider if a single X1900XT will be able to cope with a screen area of approx 3200*2100(2x1600*1050 - the native resolution of each) plus the space required for 2 large screens compared to one is not something everyone can afford.

P.S. one final point I think you mean you exude confidence, to exhume is to disinter(usually a grave) :)

There have been a lot of problems on the DS 3 with G.skillz ram Psycho Sonny.

This is true but while I disagree with Psycho Sonny on some things I don't think the problems ever affected the HZ series of GSkill so it should be fine regardless :)

he will be upgrading the graphics card in 6 months time when dx10 comes out as he said in his original post therefore i did not want to spend 2 much money on the graphics side, an x1900xt should be able to cope very well until he upgrades, raptors random seek times are half the seagates or thereabouts, and with 2k i think he would want the best hard drive because i reckon the slowest component in any computer is the hard drive, look how fast the I-ram thing works when used as a hard drive but until it becomes less than £100 including ram its pretty useless, plus i think dual screens appeals to me more than ever now, because i am thinking of getting dual 32inch hd lcd tv's, but thats just my opinion on dual screens,

to the OP you cannot use the x1950 for DX10, and you can only use it as a second card when in crossfire. if anyone knows any different ways of using it as a second card or to use it with dx10 please do tell

why wouldnt it? gaming would be handled on a single monitor only, and he could throw just about any dual head card at those displays and they would be fine for windows. you cant use that as a point to your argument.

I do not see the purpose of him having two screens. I think the 22" is plenty big enough for gaming and maybe the 24" but a 32" HDTV, no chance the res will be no where near as good and that just seems pointless. Unless he will be doing CAD graphic design etc then 2 screens is not really sensible. The x1900XT is more than powerful enough if it will be replaced in a few months time, definatly get the Intel 6600 CPU, it is faster than the 6300 and the price difference when you are spending that much anyway is quite minor, a decent pair of speakers such as the creatives that have been suggested will compliment nicely and make sure to get a decent keyboard and mouse, no point skimping on them since they are the only part of your machine that you touch on a regualr basis

james he has also said he will be upgrading graphics to dx10 in 6-12 months anyway and i think he meant changing the FOV like in fear to use both screens at the same time, but i dont think many other games apart from drivin/flight simulator actually support this
