(as suggested to start a new thread )

Was going to buy a laptop but.... this seems a cheaper idea - and portable - just what I need.

Going to be replacing my (large) desktop.

Decided on this Shuttle - unless theres an alternative?.....

* Gonna go Dual core 2.4ghz

* 2 gb memory - recommends guys <<<<<<<<<

* 2 GFx cards - Recommends guys <<<<<<<<< (crossfire or SLI?)
(at present im running dual LCDs which only go 1280x1024 - but will change these eventually) - not sure what fits with regards to the size of the cooling on the cards....
Play the odd game - FPS - mainly a Lock On fan or flight sim..... getting into a lot of 3d work.... 3d max etc.... so would like good cards... or are the quads good ???

* Sound card (I read that the onboard sound is `poor`)

I already have 2 raptors and a 160gb drive and dvd writer..... keyboards.mice etc...

good to go after that ???
Will the 400watt psu support 2 gfx cards - 3 hard drives and dvd writer...

I did actually find the shuttle for £138 ! from an etailer.... but they were out of stock.. I emailed them to see if it was correct and the emailed me back saying it was !!!! ---- will see if they get any more....

Any help appreciated - never built SFF before ---- so anything to look out for would be appreciated.

TIA

it is crossfire compatible but you can ony use cards with single slot coolers, so that pretty much leaves only the X1900Gt's for a half decent card and even then you wont be able to use them in crossfire until ati release the new drivers that enable crossfire without the need for a master card (as a master x1900 card wont fit, dual slot cooler unfortunitly :().

thats assuming they havnt allready released them or there isnt some beta drivers around somewhere?? havnt really checked so not sure, this is just from what ive read a while ago

edit: also your not going to get a soundcard in there due to there only being 2 pci-e slots. Think you might need to do a bit of research on this shuttle before you do anythin tbh :)

cheers coke - missed the part with no more slots :(

Have an M-audio 410 firewire that I was going to sell - maybe keep that if the sound aint that good...... and just use the onboard when moving the shuttle around...

As for the graphics..... another company that builds them for you suggests as an option

2 x Asus 7900 GT cards in SLI ..... I guess these wouldnt be bad cards ?

I had 2 x 7900 GT's in my last shuttle system, the results were good but the graphics cards were loud.

Dunno how quiet the 7950 GT's are.

Two days ago I read an article on the ATI X1950 pro cards which had internal crossfire connectors. I wanted to make a reference to it on these forums but now I can't find it anywhere. I think the article has been pulled.
It showed the card which appeared to be a single slot design from looking at the backplate but the cooler wasn't mounted.

If what I read is true and the coolers are indeed single slot then I'm seriously considering cancelling my order for 2 x 1950xt's and moving back to SFF.
