hello all, i was just wondering what sort of turntables a beginner, such as myself, would be looking at?

i have spent 3 years on some cheap cd decks but would like to move onto proper vinyl turntables. but im unsure of which ones to get, i was thinking either Gemini or Numark.

could anyone help me by telling me which are good makes and what sort of things i should be looking at?

try pick up some second hand technics 1210's off ebay, you can usually pickp some for around £350 for a pair. Ive just picked up a pair of vestax pdx2000 for £160 and they're pretty good.

at the moment i was thinking maybe something like Gemini TT 02's and a Gemini PMX 03 mixer, or possibly Numark TT1650's and a DM950 mixer.

maybe if i was to get a set package it might be the Gemini Scrathmaster or Numark's Battle pack 2. Any feedback?

i have a gemini ps-540i mixer which is going if you want it, email in trust. however i'd say technics for the decks, also go for direct drive no belt drive - they will last longer and are better.

well im not looking to spend more then £350. so yer i know technics are great but are no where near my budget range.

Hey dude. I'd seriously concider saving up for a second hand pair of technics and a decent 2 channel mixer. I didnt, and I wasted money. Now I have technics (well like 3-4 years now) and using anything else is a waste of time (seems drastic, but it's true).

Go for 1210s or Vestax pdx2000+ and you cant go wrong.

best vinyl turntables available.

otherwise consider CD Decks cos they are a good alternative these days (cheaper than vinyl)

just dont get belt drive !

learning to mix on belts is a waste of time its rubbish,

you will be throwing cash away, I have technics had them 10 years and they are still rock solid

honestly, save for the technics, why?

well, think of it this way....
Scenario 1. You buy technics, you enjoy using them, you know you have the 'industry standard' money well spent (plus it may also give you a mental 'edge' when using them, knowing them to be the best)

Scenario 2. You buy technics, you realise that Decks really arent your thing, so knowing you bought the best, and the fact they are well sought after, you stick 'em back on ebay/paper etc and you get All (if not more) the money you spent on them, hence not losing anything.

If you buy cheap decks you will lose money on them if you don't like it, and if you like it, you will eventually upgrade to technics anyway and lose money on the cheap decks in the process.

Do i hear a 'sold' in the background? :D
